Looks really shouldn't be a factor much when choosing a pup. You want one that is healthy, which should be a given if getting from a reputable breeder, is alert, growing at a steady rate, and showing interest in you. Depending on your household and plans for the pup plays a role as well. If you have small kids a puppy who shows some manners or willingness to learn them by not constantly jumping and pushing onto you is helpful. Choose the one whose personality jive with you. Forget looks.

By short leg, do you mean actual defective leg that is shorter or does the pup just seem off proportion right now? A litter with birth defects is a red flag to take a closer look at the quality of the breeder.

How old are these puppies you are looking at? Puppies grow at different rates, a puppy with shorter legs now can be bigger than the other puppies that are taller at the moment, when they are all fully grown, or not. Being able to see the parents can give you a fairly decent idea of the size the pups will be when they are older. My girl, Mishka was the same size as her brother, but had a taller, chunkier sister, while I don't know how her brother turned out as an adult, I have seen her sister who grew up roughly the same size as Mishka, only with a heavier overall bone structure, especially in the face.

Personally, I DO think a dogs looks play a role in the decision of choosing a puppy. I think looks go beyond just certain coat or eye colors, for example, and although you probably can't put your finger on it, a certain look just "speaks" to something inside of you and let's you know this puppy is the one. I'd go with the puppy who's look "speaks" to you because the chances are, it's a look that goes beyond the superficial.

I knew Tetra was the one when I saw her pictures online. As soon as I saw her pictures, I checked out the breeder and messaged her to find out more and that was that! I think you should go with whichever one (as Jimmy said) speaks out to you. My breeder had 3 puppies left when I saw them and even though Tetra was the first one I saw pictures of, the other two didn't quite "speak out" as much to me as my little girl did. The other pups from her litter may be a little better behaved than my girl, but I don't regret my decision on picking her at all even if she is the most stubborn.
