So blizzard is 13 weeks old now and he’s getting the potty training down, however, he knows he’s not supposed to pee/poop in the house but we find him at times trying to hide to do it in the house so we won’t see, and when we say no then he runs to the door but sometimes he’s already gone in the house. We put him outside regardless and say no if we catch him. But is there a reason why he does this or a way to prevent/stop it? Also we put him outside at regular intervals and he will still come inside and pee/poop on the carpet.

Training, repetition, rewards.

Make sure bathroom time is only bathroom time. No playing. Go outside, go to the bathroom, reward, go back inside. That way there are no distractions when it's potty time.

Make sure they have a way to indicate their need. Sitting in a certain location where you can ALWAYS respond. Ringing a bell. Something so they can signal to you that you won't miss. Reward for doing this before going potty. Then reward for going potty. I bring this up because it may be a possibility that he's signaling his needs, but no one notices, then he goes off to hide and take care of business.

My last piece of advice is leashing. For a short time you may need to leash him and keep him by your side all the time. Then he can't hide and take care of business and you can prevent further inside issues and really double down on the training elements. He'll learn he can't get away with it and after awhile you can go back to no leash.

The only thing I would have added is "don't use pottie pads!!" Why anyone would think that giving their dog permission to "go" in the house is going to help them learn to go outside is beyond me.

Tethering (leashing) is probably the best way to teach a pup to let you know when they have to go. (( Actually, it's teaching the human what signs to look for but since it's always the pups fault, we'll ignore that. ))
