| Hi all, I am new to this forum and have been reading all about your dogs, looking at the most adorable pictures and seeing all of these bowsers names got me to wondering where, how, or why you all named your pups what you did! Chenook, Thor, Sam as well as Demon, Diablo, and Dakota (all one owner!), Misty, and on! My husky is named Lars. Why the name Lars? My dad (Tom Plyler, different last name than I have) was in charge of all of the DEW LINE Alaska stations (Science and early warning stations) as well as the Palmer Station in Antarctica, where he was head engineer in 75 and ran the station in 81. Since I am new to this forum I am unable to post links to the information (though I tried ) but they can be found by simply looking up- 1. Tom Plyler 2. Palmer Station 3. DewLine Stations Because of this he worked with A TON of Danes. The moment he saw our pup he blurted out "wow, Lars!". So, Lars it was. That's the story of Lars' name, what is your story? My Dad then and Now! Dad is on the right in the first picture. |

| That is an awesome story on how you got your name. What a tribute. Love the vintage pictures. None of mine had such a great story. Most of mine got their names because they looked at me when I said it and so we went with it to help with recall. Kye was named after a drag racer though and he still doesn't know his name well. _________________ |

| Ami came from the shelter with his name - we believe, because of the circumstances of his coming to the shelter, that he was named after the tatoo artist with the tv show. At the time, hubby took a page out of the boat book that says its bad luck to change the name. Ami is a Hebrew name meaning member of the tribe. Since we are Jewish, I thought it rather fitting. Fast forward to Z'ev. A few years ago, I came across a female husky on Petfinder out of Pittsburgh named Ziva. For whatever reason, she spoke to me...tried everything I could to convince hubby, no go. Also, she was a special case, afraid of humans, had been loose on her own for a long time, shot. Took months for the rescue to capture here. Really preferred the company of other dogs to humans. One of the ways I tried to cajole hubby was to say...but if we had a Ziva, we would have huskies "A-Z" Z'ev was on death row and named Blazze. I thought Blazze, especially with that spelling, was a stupid name for a dog (it's a HORSE's name!!!) Hubby was still against changing his name but puppy did not seem to respond to that name...so. Wanting huskies "a - z" I went looking for a Hebrew name with a "Z" Z'ev seemed to fit - means "wolf" in Hebrew. And...if he had any memory of his name, the single syllable "az" sound is similar to the single syllable zev sound. And...way to similar to my new granddaughter Evelyn...I vowed after the tongue tie of Ami/Archer/Ira (my son's dog and my grandson) that I was not gonna have any more "Ah" sound names (notice that those are also 2 syllables) Well, now I'm in the same boat - we frequently call Z'ev, Z'evi. Which sounds greatly like "Evie" (Both Z'ev and Evie are short "e" sounds) Well, damned if Z'ev comes running when I call "Evie" and vice versa. And, being an old fart, I frequently call Evie, Z'evi and Z'evi Evie. So....did I make that a long enough story |

| Im not sure when or where I came across this bit of information but I was either read or heard somewhere that huskies respond well to the sharp K or C sound. (can anyone confirm that) I had been prepping to get my dog for a while before we found the right one but for a red I had the names CHIRO or KARMA, we also considered ECHO. I had friend who's mother conquered cancer and she named her husky KEMO. Anyways... I am Icelandic and always been a fan of norse mythology so when I was introduced to my little guy he was a bit of a troublemaker and had this mischievous look on his face....So LOKI it was.
In the future we have already planned on getting out boy a little sister and have settled on the name VALKRI (keeping with the norse trend). It was also fun to learn after doing some research coincidently LOKI has connections to Fenrir (the father of/first wolf).
Hope you enjoyed since everyone was telling longer stories! |

| Fiance named ours. Her name is November Terra (Nova for short). He named her after a character from StarCraft. I tried to get him to change his mind but, he was dead set on the name and she was suppose to be his pup, so I eventually gave in.
Funny thing is November Terra's enemy's name is Tosh. My man's best friend got a goofy pit/catahoula mix and named him Tosh. Well Nova and Tosh do not get along, he does not have good play manners and is too rough and tumble for her. |

| ACD was named Max because he reminded me of the dog from Mad Max. Australian Sheppard was named Sam because of the Sam and Max comic. Husky was named Rorschach due to his facial coloration. He looks like an inkblot test. |

| Sierra came as Sierra, her papers say cinnamon stick but the people that rescued her changed it to her mothers name, also on the paper.
Jack was adopted as Nanook, we were not a fan as it did not go with Sierra so on the 1hr+ car ride home with him we were just tossing out names and well we both liked Jack and he answered to it, he did not really answer to his first name anyways.
Finn was adopted as Ghost, did not care for that and at this time in our dogs life i have started a name bank for future dogs and Phineas was my top pick, no real reason just like the name. while we were still thinking of keeping him i called Finn and the dang dog came running, i think that's when i knew he was staying..... _________________ |

| Great story! Much more exciting than ours. When we found Misty at the shelter, she was being called Mia. They had no idea what her real name was because she'd been picked up as a stray. She hadn't been at the shelter long enough to pick up on "Mia" as her new name, so we had the opportunity to rename her -- The name "Mia" really didn't seem to fit her. The name "Misty" popped into my head as we were driving her home, and my daughter loved the name and wanted to keep it. I'm not sure why "Misty." I've never known a Misty -- The only thing I knew named "Misty" was the pony Misty of Chincoteague from the old children's books series, which I'd read growing up. But the dog is a very silvery, misty gray color with pale blue eyes, and most of our dogs have had names that started with "M" -- so Misty seemed like a logical name for her. It only took a week for her to start responding to it. It was nice being able to name the dog. We didn't get to name Kiki, our last dog -- She came with her name. |

| Such awesome stories of how these names came about! My older Pek/Terrier mix is named Kuky. I tried Kiwi a few days but she didn't feel like a Kiwi. So back to square one. I don't know if you guys remember AOL and AIM being huge. Well, my screen name at that time was KukyCrumbs. So Kuky just stuck and she ended up getting the name. (Kuky pronounced like Cookie) Dakota was her given name from the shelter. Everyone who had her kept her name and she seems to respond pretty well with it. The only thing we did was shorten it for recall purpose to "Kota". It was so much easier with 2 syllables then 3. |
