I came here looking for some advice on a secure way to walk my two year old rescue husky, Beauty. I found lots of great stuff here, and I liked the way you all interacted so much, I decided to join. Beauty was rescued from a shelter, which had apparently received her from a very abusive owner. She had a badly broken leg (broken in three places!), and the shelter just let her lie there, so it "healed" deformed. When the rescue in my town found her and pulled her from the shelter, they took her to the vet, where she had to have the leg re-broken so they could fix it. She is young and healthy, miraculously, and the leg is almost entirely healed now. She still gets tired quickly if she walks or plays too much, but she's getting stronger every day. She has a big brother, Woody, who is a five year old German Shepherd mix. They share their home with my roommate, Christopher, and me, and we've created a great, tight family unit. She still has moments when she gets scared or overwhelmed, but that, too, is improving daily as she realizes that she is getting nothing but love now. So, that's our story. I'm looking forward to hearing all of yours!

Welcome to the forum so happy to hear Beauty is recovering so well and gets to live a full, happy life with you all now. That's awesome. We have a scrapbook section here where you can post pics of your pack, if you want.

Welcome to the forum! I have a wiess walkie leash. Kinda acts as a self tightening harness. I cannot be slipped by a panicked dog no matter how they squirm. Martingale collars are harder to slip as well without hurting them like a full choke collar can. Harnesses that have a belly band do a pretty good job too. _________________

She's been with us for about two months, and she's getting better and more secure every day. She still has her moments, though. It will take her quite a while to get fully comfortable and trust completely, I think. She may always have a few flashbacks, but we're trying to do our best to make her the happy dog she deserves to be.
