| Hey, another question! Sorry -- I seem to be posting a lot of them, but this is my first Husky. When we got Misty from the shelter, they thought maybe she was two years old, perhaps a little older. I didn't think to ask the vet about it when I took Misty for her initial checkup/meet'n'greet, but now I'm wondering if she's YOUNGER than two years. This is based on some of her behaviors, like general mouthiness while playing and a need to grab things (no real biting, though), and occasional "bratty" behavior. But then, I think I remember my Malamute having the same behaviors up until he was about three years old. No real way to tell?

| Teeth is what most go by. I have done the embark dna test and it gives a general age when you get the results back and from those I have heard of that know the age of their dog for certain Embark has put them right on the money age-wise. My boy was thought to be around 2, had a microchip that was around 3, and embark put him at 4, which is what I've been going by. _________________ |

| I agree with Jenn, most use the teeth. Yellowing of the back molars will appear at about 3-4 years of age, and wearing down of the canines at about that age as well. Unless the dog is raw fed, and has been raw feed that part of the yellowing gets thrown out, raw fed dogs tend to have white teeth. You can also throw out the wearing down of the canines if you have a heavy chewer, my gsd loves her antlers before bed, and at 2 years old, sadly her canines are slightly worn, yet she has bright white teeth. If you can get some good pics of her back teeth and front teeth, we could give you a fairly good idea on her age. |

| Thanks, everyone! Well, I can TRY to take pictures of her teeth, if I can get her to sit still and drop her Kong long enough! The vet checked her teeth and said they were in great shape, but nothing about age. From what I can tell, her teeth are gleaming white all the way to her farthest-back molars. I didn't know about Embark. That's fascinating -- I'll definitely have to look into it! -- Faye |
