| So I recently got a Siberian Husky, it's my first time owning one and I'm very excited. It's been about 4 weeks already of countless potty training. She started using the bathroom inside, I guess since it's a new place and she's unfamiliar with the location. We set some wee-wee pads up for her (2-3 max) and she caught on quickly. We take her out many times each day, in fact most of the days my brother is outside with her ALL DAY. She'll pee outside (sometimes), but then as soon as we bring her back in and we look away for a second or even a minute she pees or poops on the floor. We've tried crate training and that was terrible...she pooped in the crate twice and we had to wash her and the whole crate. Not sure if it's relevant but we have another dog as well, he's well trained. It's my first time owning a Siberian Husky, so if anyone can give me some advice/tips on how to potty train her, it would be much appreciated. |

| First off, in my opinion, the pee pads are a horrible thing. You're training her to pee inside.
I'd suggest a multi-pronged assault.
If someone is outside with her and she goes to the bathroom, treat. Bring her outside when the other dog goes to the bathroom. Make her watch. Reward the other dog with treats and petting/scratching. Hopefully she'll observe and make the connection. Clean messes up inside with enzyme cleaners/bleach/etc and go overboard. Once a dog starts using an area as a bathroom, they will continue as long as they can still pick up on the scents they left behind. "Oh hey, I dropped a deuce here before, must be cool."

| Hi sorry for the super late reply! I took your advice I tried letting her out wit my other dog but they just play and when my other dog did use the bathroom I rewarded him, but she didn't even pay attention. However, I was successful one day, she peed and pooped outside so I rewarded/praised her. It was like that was a one time thing...cause after that she started using her own crate as her bathroom. I was out with her all day and instead of using the bathroom outside she waited till she got inside to use it. I feel crate training is hopeless for me. Not sure if you have any other tips for my case. I take her out whenever she's cries no matter the time, but all she does is pee or nothing at all. |

| 36" and we even had a divider yet she still uses it. She can stand it in. |

| As long as the divider only lets her stand but doesn't give extra space then that should be fine. You may try feeding her in the crate if you aren't already. It will throw a wrench in her wanting to potty in there if she is also eating in there. _________________ |

| Being willing to potty right next to the bowl you eat out of is puppy mill puppy behavior. Very hard to break. You may try removing all puppy pads from the house but put one outside and set some bricks on it or something so the wind doesn't blow it away. Take her out, play with her and see if she will go on the pad outside. Praise if she will. If she doesn't go, bring her in wait a couple seconds then take her right back out to the outdoor pad. Don't let her roam the house/room alone or unsupervised. Leash her to your belt loop so she can't walk away and if she starts to squat give her a yank with the leash and strong no. Then take her right out to the pad. They have to go out right after playing, drinking, or eating. Those are the times you are most likely to see her attempt to go in the house. _________________ |

| She's not from a puppy mill though :-( I'm always outside with her and only sometimes I see her poop, never pee. She will play and run around, but nothing. I've tried leaving a pad outside but she just ends up destroying it. However, today I had no one to watch her and had to go to class and her crate was filthy from when she soiled it so I had no choice but to leave her in the kitchen. When I came back I was surprised she didn't pee or poop! When I took her out, she immediately peed. So hopefully that's progress and she's learning. |

| Ewww...why is her crate filthy? =P...it should be cleaned immediately after an accident happens...but nonetheless...Are you using the proper cleaning agents to clean your crate? Soap and water, followed by an odour eliminator like nature's miracle?
Also do you have anything inside the crate like a blanket, sweater or toys? Echo would always pee in the crate for some reason when I had a sweater in there, but once I took everything out, he stopped. Easier clean-up too =D.
Good luck! |

| It's clean now, I was just in a rush cause I have morning classes and always come back during my gaps to take her out. I usually clean it with Dawn Soap and Water, but I went out and bought Nature Miracle 3-in-1 Odor Destroyed (I think that's the name) and used it on her crate and floor. I've tried both too, with toys and blanket and her food and with nothing. She's had accidents in both. I did notice if I get her really tired all she'll do is sleep at night and then she'll poop the next day outside if I take her out right away. It's just every time I take her out all she does is play, and that's good, but she'll never poop not once outside! It's like she holds it for the inside. just hope she eventually learns, she's so adorable and friendly. :-) I'm just gonna keep on trying and see what works. She's a little complicated, but worth it. |

| Hey samovrbrd
Looks like you're trying everything that you can. In terms of playing outside when you want her to potty. When you go outside, make sure she is on leash. All you do is stand or walk around in a small area where you want her to go. No play. No interacting with other dogs. If in 10-15 minutes she doesn't go. Back inside you go. Make sure you segregate potty time vs outside play time. Especially at night if you're crate training her. If she whines to potty and you oblige her, make sure she is on leash. No play no nothing, just potty and back into the crate she goes. Its also helpful to go outside in the same place each and every time. That way she picks up the scents and associates that particular place with potty time.
Good luck! |

| Alright I'll take your advice :-) Just when she whines I'll take her out, but she won't go!! Then when I'm asleep she uses the bathroom inside. Yesterday was a bit more successful she ate and I took her out and she used the bathroom. Just sometimes even when she whines she doesn't use the bathroom outside, all she does is play and sometimes she'll pee outside rarely she poops outside. |

| Sam, I'll emphasize the comment that there's play time and there's poop time. As @Husky911 said, take her to where you want her to do her duty and stand there. No playing around ... give her the 15 minutes to poop and then take her back in. If she starts to eliminate when you get inside, immediately take her back out. I'll also suggest the 'house leash' idea. Too many people let a puppy run at large and then are surprised when said puppy poops in the house. If you have her on a short leash (3ft more or less) and tied to you or an abject in your immediate view, you can see what she's getting in to and you'll also begin to see her signs for when she needs to go out. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |
