I was wondering what you would call this coat coloring she has. I got her around 3 1/2 months old. I used to just tell people she was a saddleback but then it started to fade a bit and recently it's not such a dark black on her back. Any ideas?? She is not mixed btw. The last picture I posted isn't the most recent, she was about 10 months old there. She just turned a year.

Are the hairs with the black banded? As in the tips are just black or are the black hairs black all the way down to the root. Saddle is a pattern, not particularly a color. Looks kinda sable-ish just with the saddle pattern. It all pretty much comes down to if there is banding or multiple colors on the hairs and what order they go in.

Love that photo of her with her face shoved into the ground, by the way. Cracks me up when they do that. Very Happy

Yea, that orchard behind our house has tons of gopher holes that she likes to poke around in. As far as her hairs, the ones on her back are banded, but as you get closer to the withers it's either all black or black with white tips.Coat Color 20180112

P.S. I thought I had already posted these pics with the comment so if they show up twice, my apologies Smile

That's kinda odd how it switches. I'm not great with colors, but she seems more like a sable to me.

Initially, I was going to say sable with a saddleback pattern but then I looked up my favorite review of Siberian Husky colors and...lo and behold, saddleback is "Black tipped guard hairs are restricted to saddle area, head, haunches and shoulders may be white or red. Black and grey dogs with the same type of saddling are not generally included under this category)"

Thanks for the link!A lot of people ask me what breed she is just because she doesn't have the "usual" siberian colors. The park we go to I've only seen black/white, grey, copper, and I think I've only seen one sable husky.

Her coloring is absolutely beautiful. I used to have two silver and whites who, as puppies, were almost all white with buffs of red here and there, with the black markings of course. As they grew, they too developed the black saddle, , but I imagine as your Summer grows, that saddle will pretty much disappear...it doesn't exactly vanish, it just gets lighter hairs throughout that you will see come and go with the seasons til you won't notice such a pronounced saddle anymore. With my silver and whites, there wasn't nearly as much of the red/brown as Summer has though so I won't say she is silver and white but since I suck at coloring, lol, I'll just say her coat is absolutely beautiful whatever it is Smile
