Frankie will spend all day outside jumping in and out of the pool. He will literally play fetch with the tennis ball with my son for an hour straight. It's so cute. We spend most summer afternoons out there. It's pretty much already summer down here....in the 90s this past weekend. He sure is one tired pup at the end of the day

long over due, but I finally got the group shot. They got some more pics of doggies other than goldens, but he's still the only husky (and of course the prettiest IMO)

Wow, a pug for a therapy dog too?! That's the first pug I've seen doing therapy work!

While hanging out in the pool yesterday, my son grabbed the camera and got some photos of me and the Frankster. Frankie is not generally a lovey dovey cuddle dog. But he becomes a little cuddle bug in the pool with me. He swims over to me and when I put my arm out he climbs right on. I've read that a dog allowing you to hold them in this position in the water is a sign of ultimate trust

I showed these pictures to hubby and now hubby wants to go swimming with Ginger! I'm not sure she absolutely loves the water since she's always tentative about going in at first. Storm, on the other hand, will just walk in the stream...

I have to thank my little photographer in the making.

Claudia- the pool training (as well as the cgc stuff) was a very strong bonding experience for us. In our pool we do not have stairs that go to the bottom, only a ladder in the deep end. So basically, I put a leash on him and slowly coaxed him to the end and then pulled him in. He initially freaked, but I held him until he calmed down and he realized he had no choice but to trust me. I slowly let go as he started to swim and i led him to the ladder to show him how to get out. We did this about 3-4x and within an hour he was climbing in and out of the ladder on his own and within a week or two he was jumping off of the side. Ultimately we had to put up another fence because I couldn't keep him out of the pool, lol.
Bruiser on the other hand is afraid of everything. he will go into a lake that he can walk into, but runs away if he even thinks you're gonna try to get him in the pool. I'm working on him though and going to try when my parents aren't home to freak out too.


Sometimes I get worried we are a little too bonded. I simply don't know what I would ever do without him, but i wouldn't trade it for anything.

JD is now looking for a pool to swim with Ginger
He sees the bond I have with her just from walking her the few times a day, and how she cuddles with me in bed...and now your pictures...I think hubby is feeling a little jealous.

The CGC training brought them a little closer, but I can't seem to get it in his head that it takes a little more than JUST affection to create a bond like you see in your picture - hence hubby's search for a pool...

You are absolutely right about what it takes to bond. Remember Frankie was a hot mess when I got him. It was at least 6 months before he trusted me, he respected me fairly quickly, but he didn't really trust me. It was a lot of work that continues on because you know how a husky is, lol. In all honesty he doesn't cuddle with me any other time, only in the pool or when he's sick/injured. He likes to be near me, but wants his space. So I totally take advantage of the pool time cuddles.

ETA: good luck on the pool hunt. Why do I have a feeling that it's going to end up being you in there with her and Storm too, lol.

AJ and I took Frankie on a little nature trail walk, since down here there isn't too many places to hike. But I figured I would take him out on a small trail before I looked into full day hiking trips. We had such a nice time on our trail walk.
However, Frankie has been a nightmare since we got home. As soon as he got out of the car he saw the neighbors cat. He wrapped himself around a tree and managed to slip right out of his harness and went right after the cat. My neighbor was right there as well as some neighborhood teens. The teens were freaked out, but cat owner couldn't care less. Cat's ok, same cat as always. I really don't know how it's still alive.
Then just a little while ago I took the dogs out back to go potty after dinner. Gate to the pool side was left open, so naturally Frankie went straight for the pool. As he was in the pool, it started pouring. Since the pool hasn't been cleaned, Frankie had to get a bath in the rain. I really thought a 2 hours walk on the trails would have wiped him out a bit, guess I'm a fool.
