| Just when I had thought she was the perfect puppy (quiet, took a lot of naps inside, left us alone when we ate, etc ) bam! Her teen behavior kicks in. She barks a lot (she barked normally for attention or to go to the bathroom or when shes playing, but this time I have no idea what she wants), she either lags behind or pulls on our walks, and worst of all, she has started jumping on the counter. I know this is just gonna be a long phase so I wilĺ be patient for as long as it takes. Are there any ways to address these? Especially the counter surfing. Whether I'm in the room or not she goes for it.
* Just a quick note: she eats 2x a day, 1 heaping cup each time, her bowels look good with that amount. We jog for about 30 minutes just before sunrise and again 30 minutes just before sundown. |

| At 7 months she is still growing so I would go easy on the jogging. You can cause her joints to grow in loose which will cause her trouble down the road. Rule of thumb is a year before doing anything too much like running, pulling, carrying weight. At 7 months she could be doing some teething still I think which can make them rotten as well as hitting the teen phase a bit early. Worth checking her teeth to see if she has molars coming in possibly. For the counter I would leash her and give her a yank and verbal reprimand if she jumps up. If you aren't in the kitchen then don't let her be in the kitchen if you can do that. I have an open concept house so I know some layouts it's hard to block them out. I have a baby gate I had to put across a section of mine when I got my male. I could still surf the peninsula but not the rest of the counter. What he could get to I would make sure never had anything up there for him to get so he quickly lost interests in trying to get up there. To survive the teen phase you just have to remember it's just a phase and one day a light bulb will come on and your good dog will return. In the mean time discipline. Don't let her get away with anything and get back to training like she's a young puppy again to keep her firmed up on the rules. _________________ |
