| It seems I do this hike every year. Went with a friend and his black lab. It was not hot, but there was direct sun. The black lab was much less affected by the sun than was Bodhi. Bodhi seemed to be constantly seeking shade and he was panting a lot. I had lots of water for him, and he was eager to drink it. Maybe I will have to wait until fall to take him with me on hikes that aren't completely shaded. |

| O, that looks like a beautiful place to hike (and camp) I had to stop and think when you said that Bodhi was suffering but then it dawned on me that your humidity level is so much higher than mine is here. Currently you're at the mid 70% and I'm at a high (for me) 45% - it's really odd that my pups do fine at 90° but with a, normally, 10-15% humidity it lets their internal temperatures cool off.
My labs never seemed to be as affected by the heat either, but then when I was living around Houston we were always heading someplace where there was water - beach, river, etc. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| It's so beautiful there. I can see why you always go back.
Surprisingly my mostly black gsd mix has a harder time with heat and sun than my Huskies do. _________________ |

| OH that's so beautiful! I'd be there for days!
Kohdi is soooo much fluffier than Mishka, but handles the heat 100 times better than her. So I don't think it's a huskies fluff. A typical hike, and even walks often, with Mishka is exactly how you describe with how Bodhi handled it this time. On our little mountain hike, for example, Mishka will search for shade the entire time, lay down when she gets the chance, pants, even though I stop many more times with her to give her water to drink. If Kohdi is affected by heat, he doesn't show it. |
