I knew having a puppy would be challenging and I knew having a husky puppy would make things even harder but I'm going nuts! We picked Finley up Monday morning (24 hours of driving ) and since she's been home things have been mostly great. She doesn't hate her crate like I had expected and she sleeps a ton! So the problems come out at night during bedtime and potty training. She goes in her crate willingly and falls asleep quickly initially, but when she wakes up in the middle of the night to go potty, she wants to play and stay up instead of sleeping, and if I put her back in the crate she'll scream bloody murder. I want to play with her so I can tire her out but I don't want her to think 3am is play time when it should be sleeping time! When it comes to potty training, I can get her to go outside sometimes but she prefers to go on my carpet. Every time she looks like she's about to go on the carpet I'll pick her up and take her outside but once we're out there she only wants to play and bite my ankles, then she'll go when we come back in. I just feel like I'm never quick enough and I don't want to backtrack her training. I know it's only been a couple of days and it takes time, i'm just exhausted and stressed lol! Sorry for such a long post any advice is very appreciated!

I have this issue with my cat. She sleeps all day and then is up all night banging around her room playing. For such tiny creatures they sound like elephants on the run. I wake her up through the day so she isn't sleeping too much, then the closer we get to bedtime the more I run her and really tire her out. We play chase and I will toss a mouse around for her. Keeping her daytime napping to a minimum and a good romp right before I want to go to bed has helped keep her quieter through the night.

As for pottying, you can take her out like you've been doing and when she doesn't potty bring her in and then take her right back out. If you are giving in and playing with her while out don't bring her right back into the house when you are done playing. Sit in a lawn chair and ignore her for a bit until she has had a chance to calm down and see if she will then potty. Most pups need to go right after eating and playing. It works it out of them, so to speak.

So I started just taking her out and putting her back into her crate instead of playing, and I just let her scream it out until she stops and falls asleep. Is that a bad idea? I just don't have the energy and I do not want her to think every time we go outside at night means playtime right after. Potty training has significantly gotten better the last day or so! She goes pretty much every time I take her outside but obviously still has accidents every now and then. Thanks for the advice!

That's how I did it with mine, I let them out to potty, brought them back in and put them back in their crate. They'd either toss around the toy I left in there for them for a little while or lay back down and go to sleep. If she's screaming when you put her away, it won't take long for her to realize it does her no good, and it'll stop, so don't give in and give her any attention, it'll work itself out.
