| We joined this forum to try and get some advice for our husky mix puppy. He'll be 4 months in a few days and we love him so much, but we don't know what to do about him biting us. My fiance and I have tried everything we come across on the internet, but he still nips at us. Unfortunately, we can't take him for walks or to the park yet until he gets his last vaccine (which thankfully will be in a week), so we try other things like training, occupational toys, play in the back yard, run him up and down the stairs, play with his toys but he only does this for a few minutes, sometimes longer sometimes shorter before he comes over to us and starts biting us. He seems like he wants us to chase him in play, but even when we do this he'll then jump up and try to bite us or our clothes. We know that he's doing it to play, but he doesn't seem to understand that we don't like it and that it hurts us. We've tried going limp, yipping, ignoring him, putting him in time out, trying to get him to bit his toys instead, but it doesn't really seem to work. Please help. |

| Was your pup really young when you got him? Learning bite inhibition is best taught by siblings and if they don't get that then you will have a long road ahead. If he's not done with his shots then you haven't had much time to implement the above techniques. The only thing I can really suggest is give it time and keep your energy low. When you go into ignore mode just stand still. Doing other things can keep his interest and energy heightened which will keep him wanting to be naughty. _________________ |

| https://www.itsahuskything.com/t16988p25-a-week-with-ghost-now-a-life-with-finngo to page 2 a scroll down till you see my bruises. we have an almost 9 month old who we have had for 2 months now. the only thing working for us us turning our back, which now i have a marked ass, throwing a toy for him to go after, or grabbing his scruff tell him no and make him sit and calm down while still holding his scruff, kind of like a litter-mate would do during play. _________________ |

The sit until calm worked very well with Archer - once he was calm he got a bit of "face/hand" wrestle which he loves. To this day, if I have on the leather work gloves he comes running for the face wrestle. |

| We got a husky from the shelter. He was abandoned somewhere before 2 months, so he was a little rough around the edges. We luckily had another dog to teach him the ropes though. He was very bite happy early on, and in fact will still give a little love nibble here and there (but now with no pressure, so no pain or damage). Yelps, giving a firm no, stopping play all helped. Grabbing the muzzle can work if they are really bitey, but know the dog. Sometimes this makes matters worse. Occasionally we had to grab the scruff and hold him down till he calmed down. The big thing is having everyone be consistent with the reaction to the biting. If one person is enforcing and the other isn't, there will be problems.
Off topic, but important, I'd avoid stair based workouts for young pups. Stair climbing (down more so than up) can be stressful and even damaging to developing joints. I don't advocate avoiding stairs all together (although some certainly would), but I certainly wouldn't go out of my way to add unnecessary stair climbing to a pups routine. |
