| Hey there. First of all, I want to apologize for my really 'not so good' English.. Month ago, I got Husky puppy (not purebred). He was 4 months old, now he's five (yeah, fantastic math skills ) But I am afraid he's overweight.. I thought that he's gonna 'grow out' of that, I red that huskies know, when they need to eat so he's gonna be fine, but I am really afraid of him (grandma's crossbreed dog died prematurely because of obesity). I feed him 'Brit' dog food twice a day, I am trying to go with him outside as much as I can and I want the best for him, of course.. |

| Hi Arith, Welcome to the forum!
Now, as for the English - not to worry, we have all kinds of people here - some of our native speakers are bad, and some of the non-native speakers are better and yours is understandable so we're fine!
I'm not sure where you are (and letting us have some idea helps sometimes) but the countryside there is beautiful! Is that a cotton field getting ready to go in in the second picture - looks like it to me ...
It's easy to tell that he's a little heavier than a full Husky would be, but at his young age it's kinda difficult to tell if he's just a heavy big boned dog or if he's over weight.
How about you tell us what you feed him - something more descriptive than "Brit" food, please - and how much you feed him and how often. If you're free feeding him (letting him eat as much as he wants) then he's probably overweight - some Huskies are good about eating what they want and some will eat anything that they can get their teeth into (like people.) Huskies do have a 'habit' of not eating from time to time, that's normal and scares people when their dog just decides to 'take a break' for a couple of days - that's what most people mean when they say that Huskies will self-regulate (I think, anyway). _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I also have read that Huskies will self regulate for food, but a general rule like that can not always be trusted. Each dog is an individual, and breed characteristics can be a good general guide, but do not apply 100% to all dogs. Beyond that, your dog is a mix, so you need to consider characteristics of both breeds. My husky would literally eat himself to death if he could. He got out of his kennel one day and ate so much he bloated up in size. His lower abdomen was much larger around than his chest was. Worse part is he got out a second time and did it all over again. I'll feed him and take him for a walk and he will eat everything on the walk. Grass, bugs, sticks, berries, anything he can find. He does NOT self regulate. |
