Vet already said she didn't see anything concerning with my 14 month Husky/malamute. He is a month into recovery from a partially torn ACL, so of course his physical activity level is low. However, the last couple of weeks he isn't eating much. He'll pick here or there, but has only eaten maybe 4 full meals in the last 2-3 weeks. He drinks normally, potties normally, has tons of energy when outside of the house, however while we're inside the house unless i'm training him or actively playing with him, he's perfectly content to just nap away or chew on one of his many bones or toys.

My concern is if he's depressed because we can't go on our long daily walks or go hiking or the dog park or anything like that, or if it's just because training isn't enough for him that he feels he doesn't need to eat. I was just leaving his food down for him to free feed as he wanted (keeping track of how much was down so his daily food rations weren't being increased), however he just doesn't seem to care to eat.

I am uncomfortable trying to do additives to entice him, as I don't want him to get used to that as I want him to just be happy eating his kibble. He ate 3 full meals when i switched him to a 4th type of food, Horizon Pulsar. Am I just being overly worrisome, or is there other things I should try?

Just how much are you feeding? My 70 pound male eats 3/4 cup twice a day and maybe 1/4 to 1/3 cup before I go to bed. A couple of treats during the day. If he's not playing with my son's dog which is really high activity play, then he will gain weight and need to cut back. SO - if you are feeding a high quality food (not familiar with Horizon Pulsar) with your boy's severely curtailed activity, he may not need much food at all. Also, entering his 2nd year, his food needs will not be as great as the first year. His growth rate is much slower now and he will be transitioning to adult rations that support maintenance, not rapid growth.

1.5 cups twice a day, if he eats it that is. He is around 50 pounds, but has lost 5 pounds from 3 months ago.

That is the ingredient list to the food he is currently on. I'm told it is a high quality food. dog food advisor gave it a 4.5/5.

I just wanted to ensure there wasn't something I was missing with his eating habits. I have had him since he was 6 weeks old, and am doing my damndest to keep him as happy and healthy as i possibly can!

Try cutting his ration back to 3/4 cup twice a day. If he seems really hungry, then increase to 1 cup twice a day. My son's dog looks good at 66 pounds, gained a few pounds on 3 Cups a day. Vet told him no more than 2 cups daily.

I'll try cutting his rations back as you suggested. I'm also following the "pick food up after 20 minutes if not eaten" logic. I'm also slowly working him back up to longer walks so we can go back out again, however i need to wait another 3-ish weeks before starting anything more strenuous, so we're doing multiple 3/4 mile walks per day, with a 2-3 mile walk a couple times a week to get him back up to where he was without stressing his injured leg too much. Hopefully that's helping him.

I agree with Amy, he is 50 pounds, and probably wont weigh much more than that. Huskies are great at self regulating themselves. My girl weighs about 70 pounds as well, and she eats 1.5 to 2 cups a day, split into 2 meals if she chooses to eat breakfast, which typically she doesn't. Once his exercise increases he may want to eat more.

Thank you guys for your advise. I was feeling like I was doing something wrong that was causing him to not want to eat! I worry about my little guy, he is my furbaby of course
