| Hi Everyone,
My name is Victor and from China. I have a 10 years old male husky named Shawn and now he had a problem.
Since I had been keeping the hope that Shawn could had a baby and also I thought being neutered was crucial (which proved I was wrong), I let him as a boy until beginning of this year. But he had the perianal gland tumor several times in the past 2 years, I took the Doctor's advice to neuter him at end of January this year.
Then I found out that he began to pee very frequently. In the past I bring him out for peeing and pooping 2 times per day but now he needs to go out 4~5 times per day (mainly for peeing) and he drinks really a lot more than before. On the other hand, he seems sleep longer than before and more easily get tired.
Now almost 8 weeks past since the surgery and I think the side effect shoud be gone already? I brought him to the Doctor and did the urine and blood test which shows everything is fine (I can not post the copy of the result sheet now since I newly rigistered).
Does anyone has similiar experiece as mine or can you kindly give some comments? Thanks very much!!!

| 5 times a day to pee is perfectly normal for a dog. The dog only peeing twice a day is pretty remarkable. The increase in relief trips is probably tied directly to the amount of water he's drinking.
A 10 year old Husky is getting pretty old for a Husky. His change in behavior may simply be age more than the surgery. Keep in mind that surgery is a little more taxing on an older dog (just as with an older person). |

| Well, it really sounds like a UTI brought on from licking after the neuter but if he's ruled that out then it's a little more tricky. Did they put him on any meds? Many meds cause more drinking which causes more urination. Also any swelling in the area could be putting pressure there upping the urge. I would think after 8 weeks it should have passed by now but at 10 years old it just takes a lot longer for them to bounce back. Skin tissue is slower to heal and body is slower to build back antibodies to heal themselves and ward off infection. It never hurts to get a second opinion from another vet or have them rerun the urine test to rule out a false negative. _________________ |

If my dog changes behavior gradually I think it's normal, but the strange thing I think is that it happens so quickly. It makes me worried about whether he had some problem within his body. |

Thanks for you advice! The doctor only give medine for external use for healing the wound of surgery and 2 shots of anticatarrhals. I am also thinking to bring my dog to another vet. And one more thing I forget to mention in my post is that sometimes small amount of urine will leak as he is unconcious. I thought it may has no link to pee issue but the surgery itself. |
