Hi all, I've got a 4 year old husky which I've had from birth. Recently I have had a miscarriage and since then she has hardly eaten, she's just been sleeping constantly which is unusual for her. She loves a talking ball and since then she's hardly wanted to play with it. Is there anything you suggest to help her feel better?

Zigabell, I'm going to suggest the obvious - she's picking up on your postpartum depression (is it correct to speak of postpartum referring to a miscarriage - and you have my sympathy, btw)

I'm a guy so I don't really understand all that stuff ... sorry ... if you're up to it, you might want to take a look at this site.  Since I've already said I don't understand what you're going through, bear with me a bit ... you've suffered a very significant loss (how's that for an understatement) and it's natural for you to feel "under the weather" emotionally and it's just as natural for your pup to pick up on those feelings.

If you aren't already, I'd think about asking your MD about some medicine for depression ... that will help "kick start" you to feeling better about life and, I'll bet, that when you start feeling better she will too. It might sound odd, but one of my pups is really good about sensing when I'm down and he's a nut about irritating me till I feel better ... maybe between the two of you you can help each other feel better about life.

((  For the ladies in the crowd, and we have more than a few, if I'm completely or even uncomfortably off base here, please let me know.  I deal with personal depression but I've never had to deal with this side of depression.... ))

Thank you, I'll take a look at the site. She does pick up on my feelings a lot and I've already been to my doctor but obviously it's going to take time for me. I worry about her cause she rarely goes a few days without eating, I know huskies only eat when they're hungry, and I don't want her to make herself ill (physically and oppose to mentally)

I'm sorry for your loss. Lots of walks, focus on doing activities that make you happy and take your mind off things. You may also look into sending her to doggy daycare so she can be around some other people and other dogs to get a little different energy mixed into her routine.
