I haven't posted for a while but my husky at around the same age started growling too, it was more when I tried to get him to go to bed or move him etc, I was quite concerned as I thought I might have got a aggressive one.
I think he was at his testing stage , and trying to be the dominant one, I made sure I was persistent and the one in control, as I read they would try to test this ! Well being consistent and me the boss with firm voice really paid off, as he respects me and listens straight away, sometimes he can be cheeky but he does as I say now, and he is nearly one years old.
He would never growl at me now, is lovable and gentle and knows his place. He's very strong now so this was important to get right from a young age.
I don't crate or leash - it's worked for me.
