Hi Guys, I'm new to the forum, not too new to breeding. My mom and I bred Bernese Mountain Dogs for years along with us working for a German Shepard rescue and fostering all the pregnant females. This is my first time owning a breeding Blair and our very first litter. My female is incredibly healthy and all the puppies are healthy and due to come meet us in the next few days. What I am worried about is my Male, he is incredibly skinny, it started when my female Skyy came into heat. I know it is normal for them to lose weight when the birch is in heat, but now that she is so close to her due date Koda(my male) has become clingy, has had diarrhea and throws up every morning....

Does anyone know if this is somewhat common for the male to become stressed further into the pregnancy?

Have you taken him to the vet to make sure there isn't anything more going on?

I am mostly bumping this thread in hopes lani will see it. Being a good breeder is hard work and the changes that a pregnant household goes through is something only a select few of us have experience with.

That said, how is his appetite? Has he been eating fairly normal?

This is a red flag for me....This is not sounding like a healthy male and not at all 'normal' behavior. Yes it is common for a male to go off his food as a bitch nears receptive readiness to be bred....but not to continue that behavior through gestation. I would seriously be taking a trip to the vet with this dog. I also strongly recommend a complete separation of the male from the whelping area and away from the developing puppies.
