I'm creating this account in advance because I'm getting a puppy in the next 5 days or less, so I want to learn as much as I can, I live in a really hot city so I've read confusing things about how to handle his hair, and whether or not to exercise him in the morning. Depending on your browser will depend on how you upload pictures and where you are hosting the pictures. If you are hosting through here (the icon with the polaroid and floppy disc) then it's fairly straight forward. Select the picture to upload, upload it, then copy and paste the url that has .img in the line. If you are hosting elsewhere like facebook or imgur then it will depend on your browser what you have to do. Don't give up. We love pictures.

Oscarfga, firrst - I've seen people who do not have Husky's recommend that you shave them during the summer - DON'T DO THAT!!  Between the Husky's outer guard hair and his undercoat, his coat behaves a lot like the insulation in your house, it keeps out the cold air making it so they can live in the Arctic and shelter them from the heat so they can live (like mine do) in the desert of the US Southwest.

I don't know the geography of Columbia so I don't know whether you're in the coastal plain, the jungle mountains, the interior desert or even the coastal desert so a bit of a clue there would be a big help.  The biggest problem that many encounter is that they don't understand how a dog cools themselves.

A dog who's given much available water in100f/38c in a very dry climate will be more comfortable than the same dog in 85f/30c with very high humidity.  .... and that all ties in to how they cool themselves and how their coats work to help keep them cool.

Huskies are generally light skinned and can and will sunburn badly (even fatally?) if their coats are trimmed / shaved.  Of course keeping them well groomed also plays a big part in how well the air movement through their coat helps them regulate their internal temperature - though that's considerably less important than keeping them supplied with fresh water.

Welcome aboard! The picture posting can be a bit much at first, however you will soon get the hang of it.

Like Al said, don't shave your Husky. As he gets older, the brushing of his coat will become more important and you will have the joy of him shedding.

Welcome! Smart move on joining now and learning what you can before your little guy comes home. Just remember that every dog is different, what works for one doesn't always work for the other, use this as an area to get ideas on how to get it to work for your dog and i'm sure you will have a lot of success in training!!

hi, welcome to the forums. learn as much as you can and seek advice form other husky owners. but nothing really prepares you for your husky but is a excellent place to start.
