| Hi there im new and we have a 2 and half year old siberian husky which we got from a guy remhoming her. We have tried a few times to get her to walk without pulling on her lead but she is very head strong. I know the guy who had her let her off lead and run about a field but we are afriad that she wont come back to us. We have had her since Sept this year. Any ideas or tips would be great thank you |

| There are several different methods... my preferred is a properly fitted and used prong collar. Others use a variety of no- pull harnesses. Or ecollar training. Or stop and wait every time she pulls, waiting until she is calm and focused on you. Teaching the heel command.

| Since my pups generally "follow me" at the ends of their leashes (if they're on one) my use the "stop, change direction" method. Sasha was bad about pulling at the end of her lead but the constant change in direction finally got her to not pull. I have an advantage in that there are almost no people around me so I can let them off lead, normally individually (er, I have three dogs) so I can keep an eye on them. Since I did let my first Husky run and she was fine until one time she wasn't - I no longer let them run if I can't "collect" them if I need to. This, btw is why I *can* let them run with supervision. There's a whole lot of nothing for them to get into - otherwise I strongly recommend that a Husky *NOT* be allowed off lead unless they're in an enclosed field. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I would try the no pull harness this is an example https://www.chewy.com/petsafe-easy-walk-dog-harness/dp/48923?utm_source=google-product&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=hg&utm_content=PetSafe&utm_term=&gclid=CLKOxOnBk9ECFQoNaQodfagA9Q&gclsrc=aw.ds the key is having the leash attached to the clip in the front at the chest, then do as Al described, because in reality the harness will turn the dog around when she pulls out in front of you, hence no more pulling. I will add extra steps, when she pulls and the harness turns her around, immediately place her in a sit, then use a command like "easy" or what I do "walk nice", once she and you are acclimated to the harness, and she is no longer pulling, you can either try a dual harness, where the clip is at the chest and another at the back, or standard harness, or you can try the flat leash again, and see if just using the command will stop the pulling. |

| Thank u so much for all your replies. My daughter took her out again today and again the pulling. The other day she managed to break free from her collar and lead and when I called her twice she came back to me, but I still have that fear she wont as she is very disobient at times to. There is a big open field near us we walk her round and Im hoping that in the New Year can train her more to walk even beside me. She does however hate male dogs and when we see one she growls and tries pulls more but she seems ok sometimes with females.
I guess im still learning lol |
