Forum Rules
1. Here we prefer clarity to agreement. Obviously not everyone is going to agree on a topic; here we prefer to talk out our differences in a respectful manner to ensure mutual understanding and respect.
2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Please PM a staff member with any questions or concerns regarding this rule.

Hello Husky Community!

My name is Lynnette and I am the owner of a 9 week old male Siberian husky named Jethro. I will probably be spending loads of time here as Jethro is my first husky. I've wanted a husky ever since I was 9 years old, and have been doing research on the breed and looking up how to's ever since. This is truly a dream come true, but as most of you know no matter how much you study, there is no preparing you for the adventure that it is.

I've been 'venting' on facebook to cope with the sleep deprivation and frustration, just to be hit with non supportive comments and people talking down to me as if I don't know what I am doing or am not already doing what they are suggesting. So I went in search of a community that would allow me to share without the "you have to be patient" "you need to train him" comments.

Anyway, I look forward to all that this community has to offer~

Welcome... he is a cutie!  You're in for a ride, that's for sure,  I haven't had a puppy in over 40 years... Ami was a year old when we reached him.  But... my son's dog was only 4 months when he got him.  Thought son was gonna  have a stroke over that pup but 2 years later, all is well.  Archer is finally reliably potty  trained, walks well on leash and can be left in a room without chewing every thing to pieces.

Tethering him to you while indoors and crating are your best tools.  Though he's probably not crate trained yet.  Just be consistent, remember, he's a baby, take a deep breath when you need to, don't trust him out of your sight for at least a year.

Oh.  And have fun along the way Smile

Hello from Canada. Don't be discouraged in the beginning, I JUST got out of the sleepless nights with my pup. They get used to it, I think of it as a baby crying themselves to sleep. You will also learn what each cry means, the "let me out, I want to play/be with you" cry and the "LET ME OUT TO PEE NOW" cry. I still sleep with my bedroom door open and listen for the slightest sound that he might make during the night. It can definitely be frustrating at the beginning, I broke down and cried a few times from frustration and i'm a dog trainer, so don't get discouraged. It is COMPLETELY worth it.
