Hello everyone!

This is my first time posting on here. I apologize if this has already been a topic that has been covered. I am just wondering, is my husky pup underweight? He is right at 4months old and only weighs 26.6 lbs. From what I have researched that seems to be below average for a female husky at his age, let alone a male? Is this correct? If he is underweight, any advice on how to get him to eat more?

Without photos (side profile and top) there is no way to know how those numbers relate to the dog itself. He may not be a big pup in comparison to what you are using as a reference or the reference dog may be overly large...there's just no context-

I have attached pictures of him I took the other day. Does he look underweight? At the dog park a couple other husky owners say his paws look like he's going to be a big husky. Which makes me more nervous he weighs so little.

Photos of a dog laying down don't really don't offer much for evaluation unfortunately. What we'd need to see are side profile (standing) and from the top looking down on the back (also standing) to see the tuck and waistline. The Siberian is a moderate sized working dog. They should have a lean athletic build never so heavy as to depict a draft animal nor so fine as to reduce their capability. Puppies should be lean and healthy vs heavy to protect the joints and growth plates.

My son's husky mix, who now is 66# and 24" tall, weighed 27 pounds at 4.5 months. I suspect your boy is right on track. They will look seriously skinny through until adulthood.,

Most of those people have never read the breed standard.... so I wouldn't necessarily rely on what folks are saying at the puppy park.

I would ask the vet the next time your dog goes in for his shots, but from what the vet told me when I was there today with my 3.5 month old, she said that you should be able to feel the ribs, not see them through the fur, but feel them when you pet him. Also, if you feel that your puppy is underweight you can also up his food intake. Huskies are mainly grazer (puppies aren't always) so if you feed him more and he doesn't want to eat more than usual then I wouldn't be concerned. He won't let himself starve, just make sure he doesn't over eat. That would be that he eats so much, or so fast, that he feels sick and throws up after. With one of my huskies it was just the food I had her on, switched her to a higher brand of dog food and she filled out beautifully. Figure out what works for your dog, people always told me that my huskies looked skinny but the vet always told me that they were a very good weight. I'm sorry, but I will take the vets word over the people at the dog park that own the Bichon. What I always told the people at the dog park, "It's a husky, it's supposed to be thinner, they are made for running".
So don't worry about it, if you are, then give him half a cup more food at each meal time or try a different brand of food.
