| Today, we pick up our newest pack member from the vet. Poor girl went in to be spayed (Local rescue required before we could take her home). The vet didn't know until too late that she was pregnant! Poor little girl...the doc was soo upset, we weren't charged for the extra proceedure needed. Anyway, we haven't named her yet, waiting to see her temperment. She is about 2 years old and was found as a stray, so will be spending the weekend getting to know her. We also have two others: Nanuk, 3 years old, our boy, whom we rescued in June of '08 and Isis, about a year and a half, who was rescued last February. They are the loves of our lives! We had no intention of getting another, but while at the shelter to renew the dog park passes, thought we'd take a look around. And there was our beautiful Red Husky! We fell in love instantly, left, and came back that afternoon to fill out the application! When my husband and I met, he had two other huskies, Tia and Leo, and a german shep/collie mix, Kessie, who thought she was a Sibe! Tia wasn't wanted by her previuos owner b/c she was epileptic and the other two were strays who found Tommy, my hubby. We lost our Leo in March of '08 to unknown causes. He was about 12. Tia we had to put down last Christmas Eve because she was 16 and wasn't able to get around anymore. Then, our last of the original "3 Amigos", Kessie, we had to put down in March of this year for the same reason. She was 13. So this past year and a half was one of sorrow, yet tempered by the joy that our newest have brought. So, I'm thinking our new little girl will be our last addition. For awhile at least! So, how many Sibes are too many? Will our addiction end? I hope not! |

| if you have them on your computer you can click on the host image button at the top of the post and browse for your image and resize the image to 640, click on the middle image link and copy and paste it in the box. if you have photo bucket you can take the image link and copy and paste in the box, preview it to see if it works. let me know if that helps |

| Three is the number for us. As long as there is enough room, food, love, etc. keep adding. Three is all my budget and home is big enough for. Kudos for adopting |

| I'm thinking 6-8 is about right. Their little sled brains work better the more you add. Until the point where their heads lock into the same rhythm and then you're screwed. Or something like that.
Congrats on the rescue and the new crew! |

| We just feel there are too many perfectly good dogs in shelters that need a home, not a registered pedigree. If I was a stay-at-home mama, I think I'd have more! Although, I have no idea where WE would sleep then! Nanuk & Isis already crowd the bed, and Tommy was talking about having to get a king-size bed in the future! We have hooked Nanuk to a recumbant bike, with ommy in the seat, and me holding his leash and running like heck! We were wore out before he'd even broken a sweat! I think sled dogs need discipline tho, and ours haven't QUITE mastered that yet!!!!! Although they have done well in training us!
I really appreciate how welcome I have been made to feel already! Looking forward to getting to know you all! |
