| I have both of my dogs on trifexis right now. My oldest has been on it for almost a year. But I just read reviews of it killing peoples' dogs. So now I am a little nervous giving it to them even though we have had no issues with it. Also does anyone know if it's safe to give them frontline with the trifexis? Thanks! |

| I used it on my dogs and haven't had any issues at all. Of course I also follow the directions and make sure it's given with food. (I have a suspicion that many of the people reporting tummy issues weren't following the instructions about that)
Sorry - I don't know about using it with Frontline. (haven't needed it) |

| I think Trifexis is great. I don't use it because I use more natural flea and tick prevention but I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. Trifexis is like a combination of Comfortis and Interceptor, both of which are highly recommended and widely used.
But you don't want to use Frontline AND Trifexis together. Trifexis kills fleas, heartworm and intestinal parasites. _________________ |

| NEVER use two flea products at the same time. It will make your dog extremely sick. Trifexis is a great product; like mentioned by Val, it kill adult fleas, the 3 most common intestinal worms (roundworm, hookworm, an whipworms, and it prevents heartworm infestations. The flea component is a bacteria fermentation product and is completely safe for all mammals to ingest. The chemical for the intestinal protection is the same in interceptor, an the heartworm Prevention is the same as what's in HeartGuard. I switch between Trifexis and Heartguard Plus depending on the season an the flea population where I live. We sell both at work and have never gotten any complaints or calls back about vomiting or sickness after ingestion. But of course, we are adamant about following the directions exactly lol |

| I don't use it myself, but I think its a wonderful product. Its Comfortis + Interceptor, which is especially awesome since Interceptor isn't being made anymore. I know there are lots of scary side effects possible, but if your dogs haven't had any issues with it, I wouldn't worry. It really just depends on how your dogs react with it. If they were gonna have issues with it, they probably would have when you gave the first dose. We sell a ton of it and no one has ever called to complain about anything except vomiting, and that's only been a few clients. As far as mixing it with Frontline, I personally wouldn't do it. I don't think its safe and I (personally) hate Frontline and I don't think it works for anything There are some people at my clinic that use both though and they haven't had any issues with it. I know one person uses Trifexis with either Frontline or Certifect, depending on how bad ticks are, and she hasn't had any problems. |

| Trifexis is what I give Mishka and while I was worried about giving it the first time, so far I've haven't had any issues. I think the problem is people not giving it with food like you're supposed to. I make sure he eats a good bit before I give it to him and then let him finish so he has food in his stomach. _________________ |

| I've seen reports that the manufacturer reps of certain meds put out false reports online to boost sales of their own product (for pet and human meds). While some or many of the reports may be true about Trifexis, we've been giving our two the meds for over a year and we're happy with the results. I've had one incident of tummy upset with Frosti when I gave it to her before breakfast instead of after. |

| Personally, I use comfortis as a needed. Otherwise I just use essential oils. I personally feel Comfortis is safe than a topic - my female has a spot on her back where i applied k9 advantix and hair no longer grows there. |

| We use triflexis on all 3. My vet put Bourbon on right away. I have one girl that is allergic to some topicals. So we switched the others too. Works good and the vet say if you are worried of ticks use a tick collar during high problems on hikes etc. Is that why u would want to add frontline?
We never had problems but give after dinner. We use essential oils when we hike!

| I've used Trifexus on my two no problems. I also second Megan on what she said with k9 advantix, I was given his last dose of it when I got Link and there are a couple spots where the fur is patchy that seems to be due to it I'll be switching him to Trifexus next month like my other two. |

| So now there's this HUGE story going around now about how Trifexis has killed all these people's dogs.
http://www.wsbtv.com/videos/news/grieving-animal-lovers-blame-pet-drug-for-killing/vCH3g3/
And there's now a Facebook page that has over 2K likes. I'm just curious if this has affected anyone's views on this medication? Mishka has never had any ill effects from the medication so I plan on continuing giving it to him. _________________ |

| No, the recent resurgence has not changed my views, because they still are not giving true evidence that Trifexis killed the dogs. correlation doesn't mean causation and all that. It's typical media fearmongering where they give a few anecdotal cases without giving the sheer numbers of those who use it without incident. |

| I think it's linked to the heart worm ingredient - which is manufactured in China.
I only use comforts as needed - I never dose my dogs every month. |

| What do you use for heart worms then? Living in the south, mosquitoes and heart worms are just something we can't avoid without preventatives. _________________ |

| My views on Trifexus had switched before I saw the article a few months ago. Not because of the company, but because of heartworm pills in general. I now use ivermectin for heartworms and essential oils for the flea control. |

| I still use Trifexis as I am terrified on heartworms and have not heard enough to be scared of Trifexis. I also found this that kind of also says there might not be enough evidence yet. I am cautious and wondering.....gonna talk to my vet about it later this month before our next dose! poison help trifexis news article snopes news undetermined |

| My vet recommended Triflexis 8 months ago, and hasn't changed his views. Ajax will continue to get it as long as I don't see any effects. |

| I use revolution personally, its FDA approved (so you need a prescription) but it protects against hookworms, roundworms, ringworms, and heart worms, kills fleas and ticks. Its a topical, but its one spot to the back of the head and is safe to give to a nursing mother.
I had considered trifexis at one point, but heartworm meds really aren't needed out here in the northwest. |

| I thought it might be better to bump this older thread than create a new one.
I'm about to buy some more Trifexis and I forgot how much research I did before starting Ajax on it in the first place.
I figured I can't trust articles or the comments under said articles so I might as well check with others about their huskies and trifexis. |

| I used Confortis on Ember until I changed vets and the new vet didn't carry it. Now she's on either Trifexis or Revolution, can't remember which. I think my vet said it didn't really matter between the two. |

| Personal viewpoint here. In the past, when I lived in the flea / mosquito capitol of the world (Houston), I've used Comfortis for my pups with no adverse reaction. over the couple of years I used it.
Okay, Comfortis is not Trifexis since Comfortis which contains only Spinosad is strictly a flea insecticide and Trifexis also contains Milbemycin Oxime to prevent some forms of worms. Since I tend to be drug averse, my dogs typically do not get anything they don't need. In my current environment we have no fleas / ticks so I don't treat for them. We might have a spate of mosquitoes during our rainy season (July / Aug) but typically I don't have them on a heartworm preventive. I know of no dogs here that are heartworm positive and it takes a mosquito and a heartworm positive dog to be able to transmit the disease.
Opinion: as a culture, we seem to think that medicine is the end-all for any disease when IMO a healthy life style and avoidance of situations which give rise to disease is the better option. That said, if you live in an environment where ticks are common then including a preventive for tick based disease is a requirement. If you live where heartworms can be a problem (which is generally anywhere in the US, btw) it's foolish to not consider a heartworm specific drug.
Any drug that is ingested / injected should be approved by the FDA, any that is applied topically should be registered with the EPA. Both of these agencies have standard which must be met before the drug is approved for use and before the label can note that it has been approved.
Mixing medication, whether it's in an approved formulation or by your own use tends to disallow the ability to determine what the offending agent is should your dog have an adverse reaction. As others here have noted, they use one drug monthly and another two weeks later. Whether it's to be able to determine the cause of an adverse reaction to simply to avoid flooding the pup with a mixture of drugs is their choice but I understand (and support) this method of 'doling out drugs'.
Would I use Trifexis if I were in an area where it would be beneficial, no. I wouldn't typically use a wormer on an ongoing basis, I object to giving a dog medicines that they don't need. With the exception of worms that invade the blood system, the typical worm is an annoyance not fatal. See this WebMD blog page which supports my comments.
In summ: If your pup really needs it - use it; if you're attempting a prophylactic solution - don't.
And, if I haven't made it abundantly clear throughout, this is *my* personal opinion. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Things to remember. Comfortis is NOT a heartworm medication. It is strictly for fleas. Trifexis is for fleas AND heartworm.
Therefore if you are already giving a flea or heartworm medication you SHOULD NOT be giving Trifexis as well.
Not necessarily saying anyone here is doing so but I have seen a lot of people saying they give Trifexis and then they give Comfortis. Two medications like that should never be given together.
I do agree we over medicate not only humans but our pets however when you live in an area that is rampant with heartworm, it's just not a risk I'm going to take. _________________ |

| when i got Leo they gave us Trifexis and he started acting strange, pacing, he was very hot, wasn't sleeping and was uncomfortable. i was so weird that i took him to an ER vet and they told me it was normal. So the next time they gave me a wormer it was sentinel he did fine on it for a few doses but then had similar issues like when he was on Trifexis.
so, with all this worring side affects i figured there had to be a better way. so now i've taken the more natural approach to keeping him worm free and mosquitoes away. i use natural wormer called lumino food grade DE. i was skeptical of it working to dewormer him but he passes his test no warms and with essential oils combine with apple cider vinegar have also worked to keep the mosquitoes away, he also passed his heart worm test too. and his is so much happyer, except when i have to spray the vinegar on him hehehe. |

| We've had our pups on trifexis since day 1 so almost 2 years with Mia, and 6 months with Luka). We haven't had any issues with it, but I think it's like any other medicine, you just have to be wary of side effects. It might affect one dog just fine, but might cause a reaction in another dog for who knows what reason, just like people medicine.
We started using it because I've had bad experiences with flea meds that are applied to the skin, like frontline, but most people haven't had much issue with it. They've been flea free and haven't had issues with heartworms. The only thing I don't love about trifexis is that it doesn't do anything for tick protection. We haven't had any issues with ticks so far tho (which means there'll be an infestation next week I'm sure). |
