I've been a life long fan of huskies, but I've never had the chance to add one to the family until now.
Say hi to Rorschach (Rory for short)
Hello! Glad to be part of this great community. Thumbn10
He's a 3 month old husky mix (vet suspects shepherd).  He was abandoned at the home of a woman who takes in and fosters dogs for the local shelter from time to time.  He was 2 months old and had a moderate case of mange.

My wife has had a number of dogs of various breeds over the years.  When I met her she had a lab/husky mix (looked like a giant all red wooly husky, but acted like a big goofy lab).
After getting married we picked up a pure Aussie Cattle Dog pup (Max).  A year later we picked up a 1 year old Aussie cattle dog mixed with Australian shepherd from the shelter (Sam).  Max passed away about 6 months ago (after 10 year he developed a number of health issues and we had to make the hard choice before his suffering got too bad) and we had decided to stick to one dog for awhile.

That was until my wife showed me Rorschach's picture.  We fell in love with him instantly and adopted him as soon as the Vet cleared him.
He's been with us for 5 days now, and all is going well.  He loves our kids, and gets along really well with Sam.

While I've done a ton of research over the years, I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions.

Hi Rory!!! I love the freckles on both Rory and Zhukov.
My son (12) says he loves how silly our newly adopted Husky is, he says she acts just like a little human in a dog's body... lol
Praying Rory gets well soon.

Jamie, your son has the perfect description for a Husky. Just wit till he set there looking at you and you just know he's thinking about some mischief (er, the dog, not your son!)

Aww, so cute! I only see husky, so far anyways, I know looks can change quite a bit though from puppy to adult. Welcome to the forum! Look forward to more pics as he grows.

He looks full husky (coloration, mask, tail, size, temperament), except his coat doesn't seem right. I'll try uploading some more pics later, but he has a very short, dense coat that is pretty tightly packed to his body. Even in the earliest pictures (@ 2.5 months old) I've seen of him there was no fluff. I was under the impression that husky pups were basically big fluffy pillows with legs. I've read about them keeping the puppy coat till anywhere around 5-10 months.
He only has a few longer guard hairs sticking through up by the shoulder.

His coat was my only hesitation with him. I think huskies are so beautiful and regal looking, and looking at Rory at this point makes me doubt he'll have a coat like that. Is it possible the mange affected his coat development? Maybe it'll change over time now that he's getting a proper diet and care. Although if the shorter coat means less shedding, maybe this will be a blessing in disguise.

Dave...since your vet thought husky x gsd I will say both breeds are double coated. But they have huge variances. My girl has a very short yet very thick coat. And the minimal shedding, bahahahahaha, not such the case. I do believe that the lack of proper diet and the mange does affect the coat greatly, but I will assume as he ages, and his excellent kibble he is now getting, his coat will come in and look amazing. Smile at around a year old he should have his adult and much healthier coat.

Dave, you also have to remember that Huskies come in an limitless variety when it comes to coats.  Some, wooly, are a fault, but almost anything less than wooly is acceptable.  As is any colour of coat or eyes.  Add insult to that, a damn may produce just about any range of colour / coat irregardless of what hers is and mass confusion results.

Though, I do agree with Renee that a pup who had a bad start in life may have a bad coat that will correct itself as it grows.

Added comment, seeing Rorschach for a name and then the picture of the puppy cracked me up!  Cute pup with ears that are way to big for him now!

Aw, what a cutie!! I love the freckles-I'm assuming that's where his name came from?

I would assume once the mange clears up, his coat wil get healthier. Hope to see more pictures if him as he grows up!

Yeah, his mask with the white line, white spots and black freckles instantly made me think of the ink blot tests.  My wife is a huge Watchman fan too.  We had both secretly picked the name while going through the adoption process.  Once we got formal approval and revealed our names (expecting to have to fight it out), we had a good laugh about having the same name selected.

His mange is cleared up, and he's been growing super fast.  There were a couple 'problematic' areas in the fence where he could have squeezed through the first night we brought him home, but now he can't make it.  His coat is already showing a lot more guard hairs also.  He only had a few up by his neck, but now there are some all the way down his sides to his flanks.
