Today, Lance seemed to be obsessed with being under something. The bed, the chairs, the table... Is there any particular reason he may be doing this? He's never done this before.

Hey Madison.....if you do not crate Lance, then my best guess is he is establishing a den. Many huskies prefer being able to snooze and feel safe under something. I never crated my girl and she sticks her front end of her body under the couch If you do but there is no blanket or something over it, he is looking for some other place to snooze (I think it's so they are not disturbed by light.) Many pack breed dogs will den, so I wouldn't be all that concerned, unless he doesn't want to eat or play, if he is lethargic, then I would take him to the vet.

<Curmudgeon hat on> It really helps if you can give a bit of the CV for Lance when you post a question. Some of us are 'older' and don't remember the specs about a particular dog as readily as others may. </Curmudgeon>

In this case, as Renee mentions, it's probably that he's getting a bit older (if I remember correctly Lance is a young puppy?) and wanting 'time to himself' and is creating his own den for privacy. This is often simply a dogs way of saying, "I'm tired, you're bugging me, please leave me alone for a while."

There is, of course, again as Renee has said the caveat that if this is long term (hiding most of the day) then it may suggest that a vet visit is in order.

... and unless you're referring to one of the 10 schools who have Huskies as mascots, I don't think you can ask a Husky related question that's "off topic."

Any sounds that may have been bothering him? My last boy husky Malukhai was bothered by the sounds of military jets going thru the clouds (?) they are way off in the distance, but we can still hear them and they make a boom boom boom sound and when they are training or whatever they are doing, Malukhai would lay under the bench that's at the foot of the bed or "hide" in the bedroom that is in the back part of the house and I keep the blinds shut so it's darker than the rest of the house. Some sounds we humans don't really notice or pay attention to, but our dogs do. However, as Renee and Al have mentioned, they will also do things like that for some nice quiet alone time

<< off topic >> Funny you should mention that, Jimmy.  There's a unique formation a bit to the north of me (Nine Point Mesa) that the military use for practice bombing runs.  From time to time we get a bomber (or two or three) and their fighter escort who will come through, "strafe" the top of the mesa and then "bomb" it before heading back whence they came.

Avalanche, who will come inside and hide at the insinuation of thunder, will set outside and watch the airplanes and these monsters are loud, the bombers make a very low bass rumble (like a long thunder rumble) and he's setting out there with a "Hey, dad!  Come watch!".

Ami wants under something when...I want to brush him ( the kitchen table) there's thunder or fireworks outside. Here - neighbors were shooting off fireworks big time! (One wonders - he's captain of the fire dept that does some of the downtown displays. Somehow, there always seem to be "extra" that need discharging...

So, the other night when he was frantic, looking for a "cave"...I made him one:

Mia loves hiding under things. The sofa, baking cabinet, the bed, papas desk... Sometimes it's because she hears something or because she gets too excited (a holdover from her past home sadly), but she'll do it just to chill and take naps... Just because. She'll even just hang out under the coffee table to be social from a distance.

As long as he's not crawling under something that he could hurt himself with (too low, metal or wood struts to get caught under, etc) I wouldn't worry much, unless he looks like he's in pain, whining, not eating or drinking, etc, like everyone else here said.

I think Malukhai's fear of the loud sounds coming from the jets ,Al, came from being flown here from North Carolina at 7 weeks old (he had to come a week early because of some severe snow storms about to arrive in his change of planes stops and because just losing Blitz, the breeder wanted me to have him for Christmas) because only certain plane noises bothered him...the boom boom boom I mentioned, and a somewhat high pitched sound of certain jets...regular airplanes didn't bother him in the least. these jets I mention aren't a daily thing, and once they started, I could count on Malukhai having a seizure shortly thereafter, probly the stress triggered them. I often wondered if the plane ride, at such a young age, along with the mild sedative they are given for the flight, were perhaps the reason for his seizures (???) I'll never know, but in his log of seizures, all dates were random, except for one...December 21...the only date that he seizured on ,every year for the 3 years he was having seizures. December 21 is the day he arrived in San Diego. When I looked for another husky (Kohdi), I ONLY looked for breeders that I could drive to, he was 9 hours away, LOLOL, but it gives me peace of mind.

Sorry it's taken me a while to reply. There have been maintenance workers around us making a lot of noise, but I think the assumption of it being a safety thing was correct. He'd always lay under what I was near. If I was at the table, he was under it. On the bed? He was under it. On the computer? Under my chair. On the couch? Under the coffee table.

Lance seems to LOATH his kennel. I may buy a lifted bed so I can fit the kennel under it and he may feel more invited. All I can put in there are old towels and blankets until his kennel anxiety lessens. I don't want to keep buying $50 dog beds.

I'm curious - do your pups seem to know when you're going out of town? I didn't even pack until after I took him to the pet sitter's home, but he was very clingy the day before and the day of me taking him. He loves his pet sitter though, and the pet sitter is a good friend of mine who is VERY active. He's been taking Lance on runs and apparently Lance is behaving very well for him. And despite my extreme desire, I made the good bye not dramatic.

So, Zhukov is 10months old now and up until this month hates his crate. He is good about going in it at night (when HE is tired) and eats in it, but would not voluntarily go in it on his own. Recently though, he has started going in it and laying down on his own...
