Anyone feed these as treats to dog? Are they okay to give? Google is giving me mixed reviews. I picked some up at wegmans, but wanted to see if anyone ever had issues.

Jenah, I know raw feeders feed gizzards and hearts, do believe they are considered muscle meat, so no real difference than feeding actual meat. You can feed raw or cooked, or I imagine even baked so more like a jerky treat. It is perfectly safe. The only caveat I suggest is to introduce slowly, in case it is too rich, small amounts to begin with and working your way to more, will be better suited on tummies.

Thanks for the info, Renee! I will try giving them are few raw tonight and see how it goes. I might try baking, but I already know Kai goes crazy for raw chicken so she will probably prefer that.

I have bought them for mine as I do raw snacks and treats but feed kibble. I was told that gizzard are organ meat so the fattier, more nutrient-dense meats thus has more minerals vitamins. The heart is high protein similar to muscle meat. Just do not over do it is what I have been told. i bought a tub of gizzards and hearts feed some and then put the rest in ice tube trays for a frozen treat or to defrost later.

There is a debate in the raw feeding groups about gizzards, I agree Colleen they are organ, but many say it is muscle, regardless, I agree to work up on the amount, as to not cause diarrhea. Liver is another one of those yummy treats, but also give small amounts to begin with. I also think it is the heart that has taurine (spelling) that is very beneficial to cats and dogs.. Would have to find the info on it.

Very useful information - how much is too much? If I give them like 3-4 (Maybe 4-5 for Kai) do you think that'll be fine? Or start with 1-2 and see how it goes? Neither of them seem to have sensitive stomachs.

Thanks Colleen, I knew it was real good to give!! I think trial and error since they are not sensitive, less to the pup for sure.

| Well if you were doing a raw diet they say only have 5-10% organ. But then again if heart and gizzard are not considered organ I guess I would go with just a bit to start. I gave Bourbon 1/4 cup when raw un frozen but give two ice cubes of the frozen. I think it is more of the do not give nightly or at least not nightly in a large amount. Liver is the one that you really need to start slow with.
I was nervous that 1/4 cup was too much.

I have them on kibble as their primary, but feel like they need something tastier every now and then. I think maybe 1 for the pup and 2 for Kai tonight and we will see how they do. I will freeze the rest so they don't go bad. Thanks for the help!

Right on with the info Colleen!! And Jenah, I feed kibble, and I also include raw as a supplement, so I think you are right on track.
