| Since we got him 3 weeks ago, I have done at least 1 mile walks with him every day. The last week we started leash / heeling training and he's doing great with commands and starting to really get sit/stay for longer lengths of time.
We have had 0 issues with trying to escape either the dog pen or the yard... he is absolutely loving playing with our pit - they tear around and roughhouse until they just about pass out... then they rest and do it again... a lot of fun to watch.
Then today I was lazy - and didn't get out of bed early enough.... so I changed up the schedule and only dad a fast around the block walk (maybe a bit over 1/4 mile)... then put him in the pen with Yoshi while I got ready for work..
15 minutes later - "ding dong"... at the front door...
Our neighbor two doors down had him - yep - he escaped. neighbor was nice, but decide to lecture me (thats always fun) "hes a sweet dog, but other people would be freaked out"... I was gracious and apologized profusely.
So - just confirming with you guys - I'm pretty sure this is my mess up since I didn't put in the time with him today... He wasn't stimulated enough because our training session / walk was so short, and then I just chucked him in the pen in a hurry... I feel so BAD!
Needless to say, I'm looking into upping the security on our dog pen area just in case... and I'll make sure to put in the time with him even when I'm tired! |

| As long as you learn the lesson there is hope. So many people don't see the lesson as to why their husky is always escaping and continue neglecting their needs as if it's the dog's problem and not theirs which adds to the bad rep Huskies have or end up with the dog hurt or in the shelter eventually. They keep us grounded and can teach us so much if we are willing to learn. Glad nothing bad happened to him on his adventure. _________________ |

| Husky's keep us on our toes, huh? How did yours escape? Our Mia did that with the vet she was boarded with this past week-they were apparently on a slightly different schedule then the previous days and ZOOM out she was from the kennel-apparently took an hour to corner her to get a leash over her head.
At least you had nice neighbors who tried to look out for her! Our neighborhood had a loose dog a few weeks ago and only the Hubs and I bothered to try to corral it, everyone else was like "Well I don't know, it's not mine..." |

My wife called me about an hour ago and put him out while she was on teh phone - and then watched and waited... one side of the pen is a 6 foot chainlink with gate, the other is an older 5 foot wooden fence.. He walked right over to the wooden fence and started climbing before she have him a firm "No!".. So - I'm going to home depot tonight and getting some wire mesh and putting a overhang on the wooden fence side so he cant climb over.. Its easy as the pen is really just the breezeway between the garage and the house (6 foot wide) that we enclosed... so I'll just add some treated 2x4 framing on each side and then attach the wire mesh to that. Little rascal! |
