| Hello! My fur baby Bandito is 3 years old and he has always "pawed" at us. When he was a puppy he didn't do it as much, but now if we don't give him 100% attention, he will come up and "paw hit or Paw slap" you in the face. It usually hurts! Being a more outdoorsy Husky he has semi rough pads, not to mention his nails (they are groomed) but a paw to the face hurts. And as an adult it isn't to bad but sometimes he gets his buddy (my 3 year old son) in face. Any suggestions on stopping this behavior? its getting worse every time hes in the house. |

| Ugh...my girl does this. Not so much to the face, but if you are petting her and then stop and she wasn't "done", she will paw at you to get you to continue. I usually give her a stern NO and then walk away from her when I've had enough. I also paw block where I sit and wait for her to try to paw me and then I will block her paw and tell her no and wait for her to do it again and repeat. I think someone made the mistake of teaching her to shake or high-five when she was young that got her using her feet for evil before I had her. _________________ |

| That is usually how it exactly goes TwisterII, Or i will hold my hand up and say no. and he will keep doing it. we are his 3rd owners from when he was a puppy he was in a kennel apartment with a college student, then to my mother in law in a small house and kenneled all the time. And when she "gifted" us with him he was only 10 months old. Like is aid we thought we had broke him of it, but he does it a lot now. |

| Has anything changed for him? Change in routine, something new around taking up some of your time and attention, etc. Kenzi is at her worst when I have been neglecting her walks or just not talking to her enough in general. _________________ |

| Nothing out of the ordinary, I can probably write it off as just wanting more attention .Because our fur babies need all the attention, all the time. lol I was just curious to see if anyone else had this issue and how they dealt with it. |

| I do not have the face issue but yes mine do this. I would suggest doing the correction when it comes to the face. Also I would assume that maybe he needs a little more exercise expended? Not necessarily more attention per say but more exercise or energy expulsion and that might help. Yes to expend that energy he might need more attention as you will help get the energy expended unless you use treat toy games. |

| Sasha has done this a few times ... "Hey, dad, I want out and you're not paying attention!" or "Dad, it's supper time!" (at 7:01 PM when supper is at 7:00 PM - her clocks better than mine is!) We did have a discussion when she pawed at the edge of the bed to wake me up so she could go out and sometimes hit me instead of the bed. Paw at my feet (shoes) or my pants leg - not a problem. Paw around my head and you're gonna get a VERY stern "NO!" If I'm, more or less, awake and she paws close to my head, I'll just tell her "easy" and she'll stand up on the floor with her front paws on the bed - towering over me! It did take a few "NO!!!" from me half awake but she got the idea of what's okay and what isn't. I don't mind the easy pawing but when it comes to pawing around my face (eyes) I get real protective, real quick. (( did I just take the long way of saying the same thing @HuskyLear did?? )) _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Ami paw slaps me incessantly when he wants something...but only when I'm in my chair at the table or the computer. Not the face - just my forearm. Problem for me is, I have steroid skin and my skin can tear with just putting my hand into a cereal box. Right now, I have 2 normal bandaids on my right arm, one 4 inch bandaid on my left arm and a quarter sized purple bruise just above my right wrist (that last one courtesy of Archer, seeing me outside with my work gloves...which are also my doggy tuggy gloves).
I've finally concluded I really do have to curb this behavior...one of these times I AM going to get an infection. So...I use what I do with any thing that is a "no no". Hold my hand up palm forward with all fingers spread wide and simultaneously say my "no" word - "eh eh eh". I have to catch him as he's approaching and JUST as he lifts his paw. Then he looks so confused, breaks my heart (my usual response was to laugh, scrunch his ears and ask what he wants.) So now, I stand up and say - "what do you want...show me!" And then he does a Lassie and takes me to what he wants. |
