Cancer in dogs Empty
PostSubject: Cancer in dogs    Cancer in dogs EmptyMon Jun 27, 2016 11:19 am

I just ran across this article on RescueMe.com and since I know we have some medical folks here, I'm wondering about the efficacy of their treatment.

No, no one here has cancer but one of the dogs they have offered for adoption had cancer and this article was referenced.

My take on cancer is that great nutrition and supplements can keep it at bay in both people and animals. I'm not sure about fully curing it and making it go away as if it never existed. Think that rolls down to the kind of cancer. My dad's dog has cancer in her foot. She has for the last few years. My aunt, a vet-tech, said to not let a vet cut into it. They put her on a better diet with a multivitamin of some kind and she has lived just fine with the cancer for the last couple years. The tumor stopped growing very soon when they put her on a better food. It never went away but it at least stopped growing. As for the bleeding they mention in the article, Yarrow I think is another option for dealing with it. I am curious now when I go home if my Fish Oil I give my dogs has vitamin E added.

I agree nutrition is key at keeping it at bay, and possibly affecting onset of cancer. Sadly I think all mammals are predisposed to cancer. Feeding our pets a healthy diet I feel will help. Can't really say much about the article, haven't read much to oppose or agree with it. Although, I did read somewhere, a while back, that shark cartilage may help with cancer, so fish oil, yea makes sense. Thanks for sharing the article Al. And it does bring me some interest, cancer is pretty bad in the gsd breed, and the most common form strikes animals normally around 7-9 years of age, some as young as 3, it goes largely undetected by vets and owners, because no known symptoms, until the dog becomes lethargic, can't get up, or worse collapses, most do not survive long.
