| I was browsing this forum and fell in love with this idea of 52 weeks of your dog. So you get to take a journey with us watching Loki grow to be a big strong Husky! We are so excited to have him in our lives already, so here we go. Of coarse, the first few weeks are rather sporadic with pictures. The breeder sent us pictures but i don't have a picture for exactly each week, but we will make it work! Day 3, of week 1. 2 weeks old 3.5 weeks old, week 3 4 weeks old, week 4 5 weeks old, week 5 6 weeks old, week 6 (Guessing 10-11 pounds) And, finally, when we got to bring him home, at 7 weeks old. (15 pounds!) 8 weeks old, and this guy is growing like a weed! 18 pounds and counting! He is practicing his land shark routine here And another that has Loki all the way in the frame! Sorry for the late update, had a pretty busy weekend. Anyways here is your week 9 pic, hes up to 20 pounds now! That's all i have until next week!!

| Had some computer problems but back in business for week 10 and 11!!!! Loki has been keeping mom and dad VERY busy, and he is living up to his namesake. Week 10---Family Photo!!! He really didn't want to sit still but thanks to the remote shooting option on the Canon sx60 I was able to get a good one! 22lbs! Week 11--- I think the snow is done for the year, and he got his second set of shots! Just a few more days and he can start meeting all his friends!!!! 23 lbs!!! A little bonus from week 10. One of his feline brothers found a toy mouse from who knows where (we put them all away, or so we thought) and left it out for Loki to play with. I seen him grab it but the bugger made me chase him down to get it out of his mouth. Except when I finally caught him, he had swallowed it! Rushed him to the vet and they gave him some hydrogen peroxide. Not fun! |

| I'm loving Loki's bouncy ears! They remind me of another Loki that is black and white here on the forum that also has flopped tipped ears, it's so cute. Welcome to the forum and I'm already enjoying these updates |

| I keep trying to update this weekly but some days it seems time just melts away with Loki here. Still keeping us as busy and can be, and now we are socializing him!! He has been absolutely awesome with other dogs, very gentle and patient. Unless of coarse the other dog wants to rough house with him, and then he is usually good to do that too! So first pic is Me and Loki playing fetch. I picked this one because its a good shot of his whole body so you can see just how he is growing. Week 12 - 28 pounds Second pic is him sitting with his cousin Ozzy, a Yorkie. Really was nervous as he is so much bigger but he was such a good boy! Third picture is from week 13, and we went to an indoor dog park! Our very best friends have a lab/shepard/collie mix who is super great with pups! So we had to get them together. Little bugger is up to 29 pounds now! And finally heres a good shot of his face and that cute little mask of his. Everyone tells us they love his colors, and we have to agree! Again, i'm going to try to update this once a week but no promises! I can usually only jump on the computer once Loki decides to lay down for a bit which is not very often! See you soon!! |

| I keep meaning to update this weekly, but alas, now that Loki can meet other dogs, my weekends are now his. In fact, just about all of my free time is Loki time, and with me and my fiance on opposite shifts, so that Loki is never home alone, i end up having to do this on my lunch break at work. But i love doing this so much, its definitely worth it. One thing, the scale we have been using to measure his weight is off. I noticed a discrepancy when we took him to the vet the other day, and im certain its the cheap Wal-Mart scale thats to blame. Ironically we bought it just to weigh him. Lesson learned. So a little update about how he is doing. He is just great. I mean, once and a while he gets a little stubborn, but for the most part, he listens, he learns commands relatively quickly, he is VERY well behaved around people, other dogs, and even the cats. The cats would have you believe he is a monster, but he never pushed the boundaries with them. They just think they can own an entire hallway, or couch, and Loki is just too forgiving with them. He gives them space once they swat him a few times, and is learning that those felines are not as excited as everyone else to see him. We have noticed, that while in petsmart, he seems to get nervous of "medium sized hoomans", or kids 4-10. I noticed his body language when a kid ran over to say hello. Now, he wasn't aggressive, he just didn't know if this kid was going to maul him or hug him, and even though we had no issues, i seen that he was nervous and figured we would need to work on it. Ideally, i would also "coach" the kid on how to approach a dog without making him feel threatened, but he came out of nowhere and just ran over to Loki like an excited young kid. Can't blame him, and i have been hyper-aware since then. He LOVES the dog park. And he loves the dogs at the dog park. We finally got to take him to a real dog park, and he got to meet other Siberians! It seems like now that we have one, we get even more excited when we see them! He got along with the other dogs great. The bigger dogs he would run around with, but avoided the rough stuff with. But we had some friends with a year old Boxer that is about the same size as Loki, and did they have a blast. He seems to play more with puppies that are close to his size, as the bigger dogs really wanted to go chase the ball the hoomans were throwing for them. He really likes to play keep-away too! Anyways, we have been going steady with Taste of the Wild and couldn't be happier. He did need a bigger slow feed bowl to slow him down, but he is very food motivated and loves to eat. And that makes teaching commands a bit easier. In fact, while at the dog park for the third time, i called him maybe 5-6 times, and even if he was engaged with other dogs, he broke away and came right over! He made me so proud! Hes a big hit at the dog park, the "crowd" took our phone numbers so that they could let us know when we could meet up again! Week 14----Dog Park! Bonus! Crazy husky puppy eyes playing with his friend Nova the boxer! We did go again to the dog park but this time i left the camera at home. The last time i only took a few shots and was more focused on Loki. Even with my Fiance i just wanted all attention focused on him. My breeder actually asked us for some side shots, and if we could try to teach the puppies how to "stack". I will start working on him and maybe getting him to "stack", but this was the best he could do outside, being stubborn of coarse! Week 15-Stack em up? Well we tried! And a bonus, i have to throw in. I got this in the kitchen, and i think this is just an adorable face hes making at me. Hes almost 4 months! We blinked, and our baby puppy is so big now! Even with all the pictures and videos, it feels like time is flying by! |

They DO grow so fast! It's sad but so cool at the same time. I still remember Kohdi at 4 months, a little man! |

| Week 16 i here! The weekend was utterly miserable. It rained the entire time. But, of coarse, being husky parents, we knew that couldn't stop us. Loki had energy to burn rain or shine, and he need his exercise! We took him out to a nature trail so that the trees would at least partially shield us from the rain, and packed with a towel we took him for a nice nature walk. The rain let up and he didn't end up getting too wet, and we got at least some of that energy out! Unfortunately because the weather was so terrible i had to wait for monday to snap some pictures of him. I do take photos of him inside but combined with me learning how to use my camera and florescent lighting i find that i never capture his coats rich colors like i can outside in the sunlight. Even to the naked eye it feels like the indoor lighting washed out his color, so i just waited for monday, and i think i got a couple great shots! As far as how the last week with Loki was, its been great! He is losing some of those puppy teeth (FINALLY) and has been a perfect angel, for the most part. He is much better behaved with me than my fiance, but he still listens most of the time. We hired a dog trainer just to make sure we are on the right path and give us some pointers and advice. The way i see it, it will be much better to start now than a year from now, when you have to reverse the bad behavior and then teach him his manners. This trainer is highly praised, and does in home training. That means he will come to our house, go for walks with him, and even come to the dog park! They even have a lifetime guarantee that if in the future we have problems, he will return to help us again! Now on to the pictures! Since our scale is off, I have not been weighing him, but i would say he is 32lbs at the very least! It seems like he grows more every night! Looking over his domain! A nice close-up of that mask and the many colors of Loki! His favorite thing ever! Outside! Its almost comical, he LOVES being outside. He would sleep out there if we let him. I let him out to potty and even if he is tired, he just lays down and looks at me like "Dad, we sleep outside, K?" I feel so bad bringing him in sometimes, but like a good helicopter parent, i never let him out of my sight, and he is much safer in his crate. Some people in my city have had dogs stolen right from their backyard, and we cannot ever let that happen to our Loki! |

What I've italicized of your post - yep, train the puppy to become the dog you want him to be ... it's so much easier in the long run. - Loki_Weston wrote:

Yeh, that's my two, too. Avalanche has his 'home' on the front porch (with 30 ft lead) and he'll stay out for half the night. Then when Avalanche comes in, Sasha wants out - and she's happy laying on the front porch until I turn the lights off and then she wants back in. I *do* have the benefit that the only thing I really worry about are the coyotes and neither dog gets to run after dark! _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

I think its more the camera than me. I have been trying to learn how to use the manual setting but finding the right balance usually means shooting in auto and using it as a reference. The main problem i have is trying to keep the ISO low enough to get a good picture, but i also need a fast shutter speed (because im shooting a husky puppy who does not like sitting still) without having an under-exposed photo. I can go back and crank the brightness up in the editing software but i don't really have a ton of time right now. Most of these pictures are shot in auto, or shutter priority. I do use sport mode to do burst photography, when he is running/jumping/being a puppy, but its a learning curve for sure! - aljones wrote:

Yea. I have had dogs and helped train dogs in the past, with relatively good success, but my fiance has not. I was at first confident that i could handle training and helping her learn, but in the best interest of Loki i stepped back and realized that even if i know what I'm doing, I'm not a professional. I have a bad habit of approaching situations with unfounded confidence, and most of the time it works fine for me. However, as much as i am confident i can train Loki to be a good dog, its better for everyone if i just hire a professional and let him guide us. My fiance and i have both agreed that we will not in anyway be using a "shock collar" for training, but aside from that we are open to whatever. |
