| Help!! I have two huskies. Male 2 yrs old and female 1 yr old. They are very skittish and dont like people. The male snaps at kids for no reason Hes never been hurt or scared by kids we have a 4 month old and hes great with him never bothers him. The female is always using the bathroom in the house even if i take her outside every hour. Ive been to dog trainers and nothing is helping I tryed treat training positive training and even time outs I dont know why they are like this. The male listens for the most part the female on the other hand never listens. Ive been told to get shock collars but I feel so bad having to use them. What do i do?!?!? |

| I'm a big proponent of e-collars, but only in reinforcing obedience; they are not to be used for socialization issues. Using an e-collar on a skittish dog or a non-house broken dog will only scare and confuse them and worsen the problem.
For the dog that is having accidents, you need to go back to the drawing board for housebreaking; she just hasnt learned properly. Go back to crate training her and keeping her a on a good schedule for bathroom breaks. When she goes outside, give her praise and a treat and play with her for a bit, then put her back in the crate. Rinse and repeat until she goes outside regularly, then she can be given more and more freedom.
For snapping at kids--can you explain more? Children can be hard around dogs. They're loud, they make erratic movements, they grab at dogs. It can make dogs very nervous and frightened, which causes them to snap. I'd keep kids away from him while you work with him. He needs lots of confidence-building activities like long walks, regular obedience training, play, etc. |

| Casey, I'm going to strongly second the comment made by @AnyaLuv ... Using a shock collar in your situation is probably going to make matters much worse. You say that 'she was fine with it then started again" - I presume you mean that she was house trained and then reverted. I have some thoughts and many of them involve your four month old - can you give us a little more background on the time frame over which this has occurred? How much and what has changed in your family life since the arrival of the little one? _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Hello thank you! She started pottying again about 6 months ago 2 month before the baby came. Idk if this has to do with it but during her heat she was wearing a diaper and started going in it after that Ibwas back to regular potty breaks walks treat training she got better for about a month then started again I took her to the vet to make sure bothing was wrong maybe she couldn't hold it. Not much has changed shes good with the baby loves laying by him and giving kisses idk why she does it. |
