Since our Husky lost her best friend at Christmas time, we have been searching for a companion for her. My wife and I decided to go the rescue route and have been scanning the agencies throughout the Midwest trying to find the perfect Sibe.

Two weeks ago we found a 2-year old female in Detroit. Her story was that she had been taken from a horrible existence in Manistee, Michigan but was now available for adoption. We completed the adoption application and submitted it. Since then we cannot get a straight answer on a "meet and greet" or any other information from the agency. THEN--as we were searching the Rescue sites last night, we found the same dog with another Rescue group in Elkhart, Indiana. What is it with Rescue Agencies? 1625187496

This is our first (and probably last) attempt at a rescue. Is this how the process works? Are we just having some bad luck?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Please don't give up on rescue, you are just having some bad luck! Try petfinder.com and adoptapet.com lots of huskies end up in shelters and never make it to rescue as well.

Mike and Cindy, a short while back someone asked a similkar question and my response was something like this:
"Some rescues don't seem to want to let a dog go on to a forever home and then there are some  that can't seem to get the dogs out the door fast enough and have little apparrent regard for their future." ... and of course there are a lot of them who fall somehwere inbetween.

To get better exposure, some rescuers (and shelters) work together and post the same dog on their websites so it looks like the same dog is being offered by more than just its home rescue.  Is this the case with "your dog"? I don't know but just offering a possibility.

Almost all of my dogs for the past 30 years or so have all been rescues  of one kind or anothers.  Most have come from "city pounds"  (or county) since they really do not want to have to put a good dog down but in today's world they have little choice.  They tend to be a lot more willing to let a dog go to someone who looks like they will care for it.  If you haven't already, I'd visit the pounds in your area and let them know what you're looking for and many will be glad to keep an eye open for you.  One additional incentive is that since they're funded by the city/county you can often find that your out of pocket expense is a lot less.

In your present situation, though, I'd not be bashful about calling the original rescue and asking what's going on. Obviously getting obnoxious isn't going to be helpful but being persistent may induce them give you some kind of reply.

My girl actually came out of a shelter and not a rescue and shelters don't have the stringent "you must have a 6 ft privacy fence" rule that a lot of rescues have. I believe the dog you are looking at is cross posted. One agency might let another agency cross post if they think the other agency has more followers. Try contacting both agencies or any agencies the dog turns up under until you find one agency that is willing to talk to you. Also, check and see if the agency has a facebook page. Many do and for some reason everyone prefers to do everything through there despite as a professional agency they should still be as dedicated to their other means of adoption as they are to their social media page.

Mike and Cindy,
As a board member for a Colorado husky rescue, North Star Siberian Husky Rescue i can tell you first hand that a lot of the issues lay in the hands of the Director and how well they direct their team of VOLUNTEERS, most of us who work full time and help out when we can. So some times it can take days to hear back from our rescue. If this one rescue is not working please try another one, or just keep asking for a date and time till someone finally can meet with you.
All our dogs are housed in homes over a 100 mile spread and some times it takes a few people to get the dog close enough to the person looking to adopt it. there is so much back work behind a rescue that most people just do not understand, and unless there are people like me filling you in its the only way to know.
So rescues are just poorly managed and don't have a good team of people, others may have so many request and just not enough people to answer fast enough.

Please do not give up on the pup you found and keep asking or at least try another rescue or shelter if you can.

the rescue route can be frustrating but in the end worth it when you help a pup out in need. thank you for starting there first.
