| Hi all,
Our 3 year old Siberian Husky had his first seizure yesterday. It happened at around 8am, he was still dozing on the rug he then suddenly vomited (only a very small amount), he then walked over to the corner of the room, stuck his tail between his legs and his face started twitching really badly, he then slumped on his side and began paddling his legs uncontrollably, his eyes glazed over and his legs then stiffened. I thought he was having a stroke and was surprised when he then returned to normal after a few minutes. All in all, the seizure lasted about a minute. I took him to the vet immediately and they said it sounded like a seizure but as it was his first we shouldn't worry, if they became regular then oral medication will be required - which fits in with a lot of what I've read online.
I also read online that vaccines can sometimes trigger it, which would make sense in his case as only 38 hours before his seizure he had his rabies (Rabvac-3), parvovirus and bordatella (up the nose). He's had these before without having an adverse reaction, but it does seem like a coincidence. Does anybody have any experience of vaccines causing seizures? if so, what can be done about it? Or is this probably just a coincidence and most likely he has some form of epilepsy?
Another piece of advice we read online said that zinc deficiency can contribute to seizures, does anybody have recommendations for dog foods that help address this? we read Orijen was worth trying. I think we'll also try supplementing his diet with small portions of zinc rich foods, such as eggs and meat.
Thanks to anyone who can help! |

| I'd be consulting your veterinarian.... 3-4 years old is very typical window for presentation of heritable epilepsy in Siberians. |

| I would also contact the breeder if you got your dog from a breeder vs rescue. See if they have any history, and also to let them know there is potential of epilepsy. |
