This probably isn't a big deal just a general discussion. Does anyone else's pup or did anyone else's pup get tired out after a trip to the vet? Took lutsen to get his second round of shots today (although we were too early for rabies ones have to wait 2 more weeks) and he passed out when we got home! Got up and ate totally normal but when I Gave him the option of playtime he just looked at me like "no mom the couch looks great!" So I just gave him his favorite rope we had a little tug of war on the couch but then out like a light again! I'm thinking they took a lot out of him today? Sorry if this rambled on!

I'm pretty sure that is normal. I think the trip in itself is mentally draining (not sure if "mentally" is the right word...brain fart at the moment) but yeah, it just kinda drains them. Not sure if the shots themselves have this side effect but like I said, just the trip itself will tire them out.

It might have been because I decided to run him around the backyard until it was time to go to our appointment too! You're so right though, other dogs were waiting and he kept thinking I was bringing him to a play date. Sorry buddy...this is the docs office not the dog park. He can't go to the dog park till rabies shots poor guy has to wait a whole 2 weeks! I can't remember if you have one or two dogs? I'm replying on my phone and can't see avatars lol!

It may be, but I truly think it's just the excitement/nerves/and the "newness" of visiting the vet. It drains them. I think there's just so much going on for their minds to process that when it's over, they crash, lol.

Ahh, np, I have 2 dogs, a boy and a girl, and it was the same for them, they got home and crashed, I kinda liked it! LOLOL like I said though, it could be the shots themselves have this as a side effect but even then, I still think it's the visit itself Wink

Greta, I am going to mention something that is not dealing with your question, but..........the rabies shot is not the shot you have to worry about not taking your pup to places. It is his core shots, like the parvo shot specifically. You really need to wait until his 3rd set of core shots and then 2-4 weeks after that before you can take him to places other dogs frequent. The other thing dependent on all of that is the timing, if his third set of core shots is before 14 weeks of age, then you must wait until his 4th set of core shots. Please consult your vet about this so you are fully aware, parvo kills puppies, and parvo stays in soil something like 5-10 years.

To your question, Sofie never was tired after a vet visit, Miya always was, so yes I would imagine the vet visit and ride and the shots, just make for a long, stressful, tiring day for the little guy.

Thank you for the info, Miya! To clarify, Lutsen did get a round of parvo shots yesterday. The vet discussed with us that it needed to be done in three rounds so we scheduled that one as well. I guess it's because I hear neighbors that frequent our dog park telling us that dogs who do not have their rabies vaccinations are not recommended to go that I just figured that was all we had to worry about before we could take him. The parvo shot makes complete sense. To be honest i have had the flu this entire weekend so I didn't even think to ask about what he needs pre dog park but I will talk to the vet more about it when we take him in for his other rounds!

Do you love the boy and girl combo? Yeah that's kind of why I opted for a sunday visit if we could swing it! Rest day Smile

Haha, nice! Smile

I do, I really love the boy/girl combo. Each gender seems to have things that are unique to them so having them both together is a great balance...and they help keep each other grounded, haha.

How is Lutsen (great name btw!) this morning?

Thank you! Minnesotans sure do love it Smile we snowboard and his parents are sled dogs so the name kind of stuck right away! He's good...he loves/hates his morning routine. I swear he knows when I'm getting ready for work vs. the weekend! He makes me laugh because he his dad is just going to come home to let him out not soon after i leave for work...and that's 5 days a week...drama queen! How are your pups?

Haha, nice! Snowboarding IS fun.

Lol, they DO know the difference between weekdays and weekends! If I happen to take off work or something on a weekday, they look at me like wth ...they're totally confused, sometimes it even looks like Mishka is doing the math in her head like, nope, uh-uh, it hasn't been 5 days yet, lol.

They're doing great! Took them to the lake yesterday, they had a good time but their tiredness didn't last nearly as long as I would have liked but all in all they're good. Can't wait to get home to them,, haha.

You need to start a scrapbook! It's super easy and it's cool way to store your pics/memories, we'd love to watch Lutsen grow in here :

I really should start a scrap book. Especially once i can really take him to do some fun activities. Not that he doesn't have fun now...but it's a lot of walks/runs and playing in the back yard...puppy stuff!

A lot of my pics are nothing more than shots in the yard doing their thing, but I really enjoy the scrapbooks here. It allows me to see huskies in all parts of the country and world! I've made a few friends in here since I started and I get to see their huskies growing up and having these great times in their pics (even if it's only playing in the backyard! Wink) and in turn they can watch mine grow up too. I think it's a great thing to have these scrapbooks here. You should totally start one Smile

Very good point! I keep forgetting that there are members from all over the world on here! I started looking at scrap books the other day. Your pups are beautiful!

We are going snowboarding again tonight...we went last night and practically had the whole slope to ourselves! Too bad lutsen can't join in on the fun...our friends that watch him from time to time are coming over tonight so he doesn't have to kennel up and he can play while we have our fun.

Exactly! I've thoroughly enjoyed looking at everyone's scrapbooks here, and have seen some of the most amazing pics, not only in the beauty of their huskies but also in the beauty of whatever part of the country/world they are living in, it's pretty awesome!

Awww, I bet it's just gorgeous on these slopes in Minnesota...Lutsen will have a blast once he's able to go with you!!! I hope I get to see pics Wink

Thank you so much, these two are my life. Never a dull moment with them around, haha. It's funny too, with these scrapbooks I've seen them change ...sounds stupid but when I'm with them/see them every day, I don't really notice them changing as much, but in looking back thru pics I'm like "wow" in some instances, haha. Sure I can see all these pics on my computer and stuff but in the scrapbooks it's actually more convenient/easy to refer back to certain times in their lives.

haha i feel like Lutsen might benefit more from skijoring! We will see Smile

It's so true! When friends/family comment that the dog is getting so much bigger and you're just like "really? i guess!" Do you even notice when they gained weight? I still carry Lutsen sometimes like hes still 6 lbs and he's now at the 20 mark!

I agree with you..this forum is geared towards husky life so seeing them change in here probably does make a difference! They seem like they happy campers that's for sure so kudos to you. I won't lie you have got me thinking of possibly getting Lutsen a new pack member to play with! We will probably wait on it though..want it to happen for the right reasons and at the right time.

The right time and the right reasons are important. When it does happen though, you are going to LOVE it! I've experienced having two puppies at the same time and getting a puppy when the other was a little older, I can't recommend one over the other as they both are pretty cool in their own ways, I can say though that having Lutsen a little older when you are at that "right time/right reasons" point, will help you tremendously in the stress and training areas, haha. I would have liked Kohdi and Mishka at the same time, but it worked out well getting Mishka a year later and theyre still close enough in age that they have a blast together.

I agree with both of you! Just because I am getting used to training a puppy as well...Lutsen is pretty comfortable with his new routine. Not to mention Ryan and I have been discussing future wedding plans so if that happens in the next year or two adding another dog would be very overwhelming!

there was an adoption seminar going on at our local pet food outlet this weekend...i was a bleeding heart for those dogs! Ryan had to literally talk me out of applying. "Not the right time yet" i know i know! But...its especially hard when you see surrendered pups and you know that you could give them a great home Smile
