| Hello!! Im new in this forum so I dont know if this is the right place to post this question...Im thinking of rescuing a puppy Husky -Malamute... the only problem is its not going to be an indoors dog and I've heard they tend to howl a lot when they feel bored...how frequent is their howl ? is it like the rate the other dogs bark but instead these ones howl ? or is it way more ? |

Other may disagree with me, but howling is not going to be your only problem nor is going to be the least of your problems. Husky's (and I think Malmutes as well<??>) are family / pack animals. If you leave a Husky outside you can expect virtually constant noise howling / barking and probably some pretty destructive behaviour. I'm sorry, but being brutally blunt, maybe you'd better back up and rethink this ..... _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| No its fine..im glad you are being blunt..because I don't want to try to do something good by adopting it...and her and I not to be able to 'have fun' .. of course I'll spend time with her...but yeah most of the times shes going to be alone..there are other dogs outside as well..but shes going to be in a different little house....so huskies need to be coupled up or in a house right ? |

| I would kind of have to object to "in a house" as that suggests that leaving her alone in the house would solve the problem which is definitely not the case. Eaten couches / wallpaper / door frames are only a few of the things destroyed by dogs who have been left alone, uncrated, in the house.
Most Husky's are happiest when they're with 'their people' a close second is when they have a companion. You say "there are other dogs outside as well..but shes going to be in a different little house." She'd probably be happier (quieter) if she were with them, in fact if she can see or hear them and not be able to play with them it would probably only exacerbate the noise problems. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| I was thinking of letting her be free in a little house we have in the yard since they like running...instead of being leashed close to the others..but If keeping her leashed and closer with the rest and bringing her for like long walks and runs keep her energy levels tamed, thus her destructive side calmer , I would go for that one. I'm used to having pit bulls or Gekas (greek hunting dogs) which do good by themselves too.....but then again there's the leashing problem i guess which she wouldnt like :/ Im a bit confused right now whether she will actually like it or not... |

| I have had six huskies, currently have three and never had much howling. I have had two that do it every once in a while. They almost never bark except when playing with each other. I have never had one as a lone dog, always had two or three. Actually once when one died we were down to one and had to quickly find another one as the lone one was very depressed without a playmate. |
