Hi my name is Cortney and I have a 7 month old Siberian Husky named Octavian, and we call him Tavi We've had him since he turned 9 weeks, and he's a Troika pup, his grandfather is Bourbon, who played Truman in 8 Below! He's our dream puppy, as we've been waiting over 8 or 9 years to finally be in the right place to have a Siberian. During those 8 or 9 years my husband and I talked to anyone we knew who had a Siberian, and read and researched and watched shows and youtube videos of them....which, naturally, was only minor preparation for the reality of owning a siberian...LOL.

My husband and I have a 2 year old son, as well as 3 cats. Tavi often gets his butt kicked by said cats...

Tavi's only real issue is eating all things socks/cotton and paper (like baby wipes...). We've already had to go to the vet a few times...plus a barium study...It's sad when your dog has a reputation at the vet as the sock and baby wipe eating dog... I basically keep all of my son's socks in the car now and make sure to keep the baby wipes out of my son's reach so he won't pull them out and throw them around. It helps a lot, though Tavi has stolen a mitten off my my son's hand and ate it...so we still have some work to do...any tips would be appreciated!

Welcome to the forum fellow Texan. That is one of the many issues people have with huskies, they have a penchant for eating things they shouldn't. Have you taught him drop it and leave it? If not you need to. also like you are doing, keeping things away from him so he can't steal them. As he ages he will learn and not be so apt to eat things he shouldn't. The only other suggestion is to never leave him out of your site, so if you can't watch him either crate him, or have him tethered to you so you can watch him. best of luck, they are a wonderful, yet challenging breed.

Thank you I teach him to Leave it (still working on drop it), as well as Wait and several other commands...the issue is when he gets into a certain headspace he won't listen. We do crate train (his breeder actually started it before we picked him up), so he's in the crate at night and when we're not home, and when I can't 100% supervise him he's either in the dining room/kitchen (blocked off with baby gate) or in his crate. He IS getting better as he gets older though, as you said. So hopefully with time I won't have to worry so much about bowel obstructions.

Ah, we've got ourselves another Texan!! (( Now where'd my LoneStar flag go?? )) Welcome to our forum and I can't offer any suggestions; I have a dog who's literally eaten pieces out of two pair of blue jeans! Thankfully he didn't suffer any ill effects but I'll say that *I* was a bit irritated!!

I'm over in the Big Bend area of southwest Texas, BTW. For owning 'cold weather' dog, we seem to have a good sized group of us in this hot state - I'm literally in the Chihuahuan desert where the summer temps are in the low 100's and we do fine, 'course they spend quite a bit of time 'crashed out'!

What's funny is even when we get snow and it's super cold, my pup would much rather just chill indoors. He usually does his thing then wants to come right back in...

Welcome to the forum! I have a soft spot for Troika, my boy Kohdi isn't full Troika but the line is predominant in his blood. I just love them! I hope you post lots of pics!

Cortney....wow, this is a first for me here on this forum. I too am in the Big Country area. And wow, your pup is gorgeous. Funny my girl loves the cold, haha, zoomies are at her best when below 30. The snow we had a few weeks ago, was just perfect for her, lol.

I'm glad Renee chimed in 'cause I had no idea where the 'Big Country' area is! Hey, gimme a break, it's a big state all the way from the 'Big Thicket' to the 'Big Bend' ... everything's bigger in Texas, right??

I've always found it funny that the same people who put 15" of insulation in their attic so their air conditioner works well in the summer don't realize that this thick layer of hair and fur does the same thing for our dogs ... and I love it when they go "Oh!" when the light dawns!!

I have one, Avalanche - my Alaskan - who hangs out on the front porch (30' lead) until I go out the back door then he's running around the trailer to see what I'm up to. Sasha, my Sibe, wants to go out twice a day - morning and evening - the rest of the time she's, normally, within a few feet of me. She's the one who goes desert walking with me off lead because she very seldom gets out of sight and normally comes back to me when I call -- okay, sometimes I get "but da-ad! I'm just right here!" but most of the time she comes.

hi, welcome to the forums. i to have the reputation at the vet for the dog that eats things that he shouldn't. i just keep the floor extra clean, and keep things that he might think about eating out of reach. and keep my eyes peeled. i do hope it gets better with age lol.

I know all about your frustration with Mr. Tavi and his vacuuming ways...our boy has quite a list of stuff he has gobbled up but thankfully has always passed them through. No matter how careful we are...it was just meant to be I guess. But Mylo is over a year old now and has left those ways behind. The last episode was a few months ago with a corn cob piece.
I hope Tavi pulls through anything else his crazy self gets in to! And keep doing what you are doing.

And I guess I'm the city boy out of the texas crew here haha I'm in Houston near the downtown area but I wish I was farther up north in houston hehe
