Hello forum

Been a lurker for quite a while and I have a question see if you guys can chime in.

Owned a Husky long ago when I was younger didn't have much money I believe my parents got our dog it's second shots and that was about it and the dog was fine.

we have gotten a beautiful bundle of joy Husky from a breeder and so far training and everything else is going great.

A little frustrated with the vet because all they ever want to do is shove us out as quick as they can and answer our questions with the shortest answers (by the book).

Timber got his 4th set of shots yesterday plus his rabies.

He was born Sept. 8th and is currently 24 lbs.

Here is what he received last visit which was yesterday

HDPP #4
Distemper, Hepatitis, parvovirus, Parainfluenza

Before I left I asked the vet when can we start taking him out for walks, trails, such and the vet said 3 more weeks.

Now are they just telling us this so we don't come back next week with a sick puppy or is just standard procedure. We have a large back yard, large house Timber gets plenty of exercise everyday but we want to get him to explore some of the neighborhood and I want to start taking him out camping with me. Please some advice from a (non legal reciprocating liability source) would be helpful

Thanks,

Mark

Immunity takes about 2 weeks to develop, therefore I think your vet gave you a good time frame. That 3 weeks is such a drop in the bucket compared to how long your pup will be your companion...I say, stick it out.

I agree with Amy. I would wait at least 2 weeks. If your puppy sees another dog and wants to play, make sure it's a dog YOU KNOW well, like a neighbors dog who is healthy and is vaccinated. My puppy is 4 months and has had 3 rounds of vaccines. I am giving him a 4th (I debated on this) but since we are in South Carolina, there's all sorts of nasty things going around so I will give him a 4th vaccine because his 3rd set was given when he was 14 weeks. I let him play with other dogs that I know and keep him away from heavily populated dog areas. Yes, some vets answer quickly and shove you out but take your money first Mad . You need to find a good vet you can trust and will always take your phone calls and answer all your questions.
