| does anyone out there use them and for what?
Sierra is starting to show signs of her age (7) and seems when she gets up from laying for a while it looks like her hips hurt and walks funny for a few min and then is fine. some one told me i should start her on glucosamine and i was wondering if any one has used that and maybe a brand to look at using? i have all ready reduced her food to try and get more weight off of her 59lb frame all thought when i feel around i can still feel her ribs and when she is laying down she has lose skin, but i still figure the less weight the less strain on her legs. any suggestions you have feel free to let me know, thanks! _________________ |

| We've gone through four different glucosamine things from pills to liquids. What ended up working the best for Sioux is some $2 WalMart treats for hips with glucosamine in them. The trick is to remember to give it every day. I notice if I miss even one day it takes almost two weeks for him to get back to "normal". Likewise, I gave each product 4-6 weeks to start working before moving on to others. I bet it's different for each dog as to what works best. Lucky for me it hasn't gotten very expensive, yet. |

| i was also reading that you should find something with glucosamine and chondroitin in it, I read that together they work better then either alone. _________________ |

| I supplement my three with Nupro Silver w/ Joint Support. It's a general supplement with added glucosamine, MSM, and Ester C. My chi, Glory, has luxating patella so she gets additional joint supplements that my other two do not receive. Glory gets: Glyco-Flex II Nupro Silver w/ Joint Support MSM Ester C I would recommend doing some more research on the different supplements available what exactly the different ingredients actually do. You'd be surprised what you'll learn. _________________ |

| Is daily dose of Visorbits good for Husky?
I also give him BBN Pet-Caluiam for his skin, and Excel Calcium.
Are they recommended products? |

| Why are you wanting to supplement? Is there an actual need for all the supplements that you are asking about? Visorbits is high in iron and often used for anemic, geriatric, or sick dogs. I wouldn't use it on a healthy dog, plus it contains ethoxyquin as a preservative. I have no idea what BBN Pet-Caluiam is so I can't comment but I would hazard a guess that it's not quite a good an option as using fish oil or coconut oil for the skin. What is going on with your dog's skin that you feel the need to supplement? Excel Calcium I wouldn't use again unless there was a calcium deficiency that you are trying to correct. Is there? If not, then a good, balanced diet should be all you need. And if you do find the need to supplement calcium I would recommend incorporating some raw meaty bones or crushed egg shell into the diet over a calcium pill. That's just my two cents. _________________ |

| Thanks huskyluv. Visorbits is recommended by the pet shop to maintain my husky (Nero) fur. Said his shedding wouldn't be as much if I use Visorbits. BBM Pet-Caluiam is recommended by another pet-shop. Said that Nero will need Vitamin C & D, and it's the best they can get. Excel Calsium is the same story. Geez I guess I am screwed. Should have found this thread earlier. |

| If Nero is on a good, healthy rotation diet he shouldn't need those supplements. And I'm pretty sure most of us here will agree that Nero will shed profusely regardless of the supplements...he's a husky after all! If you've already bought the supplements and want to finish them off then I don't see the harm in finishing them. But honestly I wouldn't waste your money on them again. I'm certainly not against supplementing if you can find something available to you that is similar to Missing Link or Nupro Supplements which we have here in the States. I doubt you have either of those where you are but maybe you can find something comparable if you really want to supplement. _________________ |

| Thanks Huskyluv.
I only feed Nero Royal Canin, and that's it. I have some biscuits as treats but really that's all I give him.
Do you think he is fine on RC alone? |

| Royal Canin is a "balanced" dog food according to the AAFCO. If you want, you can only feed that to your dog and your dog will be fine. It's not exactly one of the best or healthiest dog foods... but if you like it, it is fine to feed just that alone. _________________ Force Free Training ThreadCheyenne, Mishka, Mickey, Rodeo, & Odin Are you a Husky owner in South Florida?! | I know that huskies are supposedly known to have eye issues down the line. Are there any supplements/foods that you feed yours for eye health? |

| I have had great success with Cosamin for dogs. Night and day difference! Works for people too. To be honest, I get the "people" version and then open a capsule and put it in the food. It's cheaper than buying the "dog" kind, and Rite-Aid often does buy-1-get-1-free deals.

| I just started giving Frankie Nupro silver tonight for the first time. He went nuts.......absolutely LOVED it. I'm driving my family a little nuts with all this. Bruiser and all of their past dogs never had half of the issues Frankie has, so they think I'm a little neurotic. |

| Storm also loves Nupro Silver! I tried to give him Myristin that Ginger gets and he spit it out. I tried to put it between cheese, and he managed to eat the cheese and not the tablet. Myristin is kind of expensive, so it's a good thing he like Nupro. Haven't tried Ginger on Nupro yet. But that might taste funky with her Honest Kitchen fish! Storm didn't like that combo, so I'm thinking I may have to buy 2 different glucosamine products for each of my 2.

| They said that they have steroids for dogs? This product can buff your dog's body to make it look more muscular. I think this product is not good for dogs because like human steroids, they can be dangerous. I wish they ban this product. |

| Steroids can be given as a prescription by a vet for different medical uses so I don't think that an outright ban is the best approach to steroid use. Most normal people don't give their dogs steroids for non-medical reasons of course. And you're right, steroids can have negative effects however most prescription drugs have negative side effects whether they are for dogs or people and whether they have steroids or not. _________________ |

Is there a specific product you are referring to, or just steriods in general? |
