| We have had our existing female since she was 6 weeks old. She is now a little over 4 months old. She is a fun, high energy girl and very affectionate.
We came across a local couple relocating with the military and not able to take their 2 year old intact male husky with them.
Since we brought him home, we have tried to minimize anything to provoke any aggression. They stay in kennels in seperate areas. they get fed in the kennels as well.
When no food or toy is near by the new dog is a joy with the existing pup. They play very well. I should say DID play well. Yesterday she went near his empty bowl and he attacked her. She has small lacerations on her neck, but more severly he tore part of her ear.
My better half is heart broken. And now our little pup is totally lethargic and doesnt eat or move hardly at all.
so I guess a) How to we properly address and handle his food / toy aggression? b) Is this so severe that he needs to find a more suitable home? c) How can we help our pup? |

| Is he uptight about you going near his bowl? Is he toy/food aggressive with you? How long have you had him? Building trust between you and the new dog and the new dog and your other dog takes time. If it has only been a week then they are still learning each other. Taking up bowls after eating is part of "his" things that will need to be worked on. Anything that is in "his" space becomes game for possessiveness. If he is possessive with you then there's where you start with hand feeding and taking while giving. If he is only animal possessive then it's a different bear.
On a side note, I would get him fixed. That might knock him down a notch and will ease things as your girl ages. You don't want her to go into heat with this kind of tension around and he still intact.
Did you take pup to vet after the bite? If she is lethargic and not eating or moving you might want to do some blood work on both dogs and make sure he isn't carrying anything the bite might have passed to her. What kind of vet records did you get with this guy? Is he and her utd on everything? _________________ |

| While the aggression concerns me, I'm more immediately concerned about your lethargic pup. Has she been to the vet? Xrays/bloodwork done? A 4 month old pup, even after a fight, shouldn't be lethargic. I would be worried that something was seriously damaged--even if the lacerations appeared mild--or the dog transmitting some kind of illness or bug. |
