Hello everyone.

First of all I want to thank everyone on this site for putting togeter such a awesome forum. Really love the wealth of information on this site.

So after years of thinking about getting a dog (First pet), I have finally made the decision to get a Husky (Boy)Very Happy
I am going to go see few puppies on Friday . I am super excited. The puppies are almost 9 weeks old.

If anyone has tips on what to do and watch out for on the first day, I would really appreciate it.

Look for health gaurantees, OFA certification (parents hip dysplasia free) and eye certification (don't remember - there are 2 organizations certifying the eyes of the parents are free from genetic diseases.)

You want your puppy to be alert, bright eyes, shiny coat, active, responsive to you. Should have first puppy shots, be wormed. The kennel should be clean and well-kept, the parents have friendly dispositions and also look healthy.

I'm sure others will add to this. That is all I can think of at the moment.

I think Amy hit it on the head with her post.

What kind of car do you have? Do you have a travel crate or some other way to secure him? You don't want him crawling around on the floorboard and causing an accident.

Don't forget to find out what the breeder fed him! You might want to transition off it if you have another brand you prefer.

Good luck!

Driving a civic. Will have a younger cousin along. From what I read on a post somewhere on the forum was to hold the puppy instead of crate on its first car ride.

You'll be good, then. Just as long as you don't have to be distracted by the "oh my gosh what is that squirt getting into down there?!" lol.

Pee pads, bring pee pads. Mishka peed on me like 15 minutes into our trip home, haha. I too carried both mine in my lap on the way home. Someone else drove of course.

I am surprised it was suggested to carry in the lap though, as far as safety for the puppy. I had brought a crate just in case the breeder wouldn't let the pup leave without one.

So right after work yesterday, I went to the pet store and bought some basic things like Kong toy , treats, pee pads, etc. I called the lady with the pups to remind her I am coming on Friday... and out of no where she informs me that she sold all the male pups. Hi Everybody! 1625187496

Now i found a few more pups from a different seller. But like most places I contacted they only girls available. I eventually did find a boy pup all white its only 1 week  right now, but they are asking 150 more then the girl. Girl is ready to be picked up on FRIDAY.

So i am not sure what to do. Do I spend the extra 150 and get a boy all white that I originally wanted. Or save the 150 for doogy food and toys and get a girl. Girl is white and light reddish tan.

I wanted a male when I was shopping for a husky. I was dead certain I wanted a male and nothing could sway me. When I started looking for one, I came across my Koda. Needless to say, I own a female now and couldn't be more happy.

To condense that, the sex doesn't matter that much. You'll probably fall in love with one and it won't matter anymore. The waiting to pick up is TERRIBLE as well. Like, worse than anything I've ever had to wait for. If you are hell-bound to get a male, you can ALWAYS add one in down the road. Huskies do better in pairs anyway.

Good Luck!

What is this? Does no one like girls?

It's your decision. I would go meet the girl at least. If she's from healthy parents and has a good temperament it hardly matters what color she is.

Had a girl husky 40 years ago - she was great, loved her to pieces. Have a boy husky now. He's great and I love him to pieces.

As for white vs white - light red...Ami is a light, dilute red. Many times people mistake him for white (though why, I cannot imagine.

As for girl vs boy? Usually girls are smaller...less food, more money in pocket.

Cora is a light red, girl and I love her so much, she is a little sassy fire ball. Girl or boy it doesn't matter but get what you want because this is 15 year commitment .

So I made the decision. I called the seller with the male white pup. She seemed like a good breeder. Gave me great info. Was able to haggle her down $50. So looks like my pup will be ready by NOV 16TH. Now i just need a name...thinking Casper since hes all white Very Happy
