Our Husky pup, Ghost, will be coming home towards the end of September! He is 15 days old today! (All white Siberian) Both parents are white with blue eyes. We are so excited to bring him home! This will be our first experience with a Husky. It will technically be my son's dog (he's 16) but I will be the one with him all day since I'm a stay-at-home mom. We have researched, been in contact with the breeder daily, ordered books (because I'm apparently old school and still enjoy reading books)! The main reason for joining this board right NOW is - we recently lost our Boston Terrier (unexpectedly). He seemed perfectly healthy and happy until I found him lifeless one morning last week. Upon getting him to the vet, they said he had prostate cancer and slipped discs in his back. He was 9. I'm heartbroken and I've always had a small breed dog since I was a child. My heart yearns for another small breed dog but I'm afraid to get one because I don't want to take away from my son's experience with his new Husky baby that will be here before we know it. If anyone is still reading this and has any constructive advice, I'd very much appreciate it! I'm not a pet hoarder. (we typically have 2 dogs at a time though - our English Bully passed away over the summer at the age of 9). My heart is just aching from the losses. I miss my fur babies sooo bad. We were as prepared as we could be for our sweet bully passing as he had a lot of problems. Our Boston baby was a complete shock. Anyone on here have personal experience with having a small breed pup and then bringing home a Husky pup a month later? Thank you

Firstly good luck to your son, I also ask my parents for a husky of my own and it's amazing and so Fufilling to have something to take care of. Regarding a smaller dog noticed a lot of people on this forum have a husky and an older dog smaller dog, personally I have cats and they get along with Cora to a certain degree. The only issue with bully breeds is the loose skin, Huskies love to get that skin and shake their head. But! If you get them both as puppies maybe they will grow up together and your sons husky will understand that it's not okay to grab the loose skin. I'm sorry for the loss of your two dogs, I'm sure they are running free. Anyways good luck with the new puppy or puppies!

Thank you! I'm sure we'll work it out either way. I'm no stranger to hard work! I just don't want to overwhelm my family or my soon-to-be dog(s). It will be a bit different than before if we have two, as my son will be responsible for helping. I had two boxers (M & F) before the last set (both M's) Boston and English Bull. All were very different personalities and yet alike in some ways. All kept indoors; as will Ghost (Husky). We will be neutering as we have no desire to breed.

My Koda plays with beagles a lot (they are very popular in the country) and she likes them. If you raise him with a small dog, there should be no issue. As far as your sons husky, he would want another dog to be around. I know my Koda yearns to be with other dogs. I know the smaller one would benefit from it as well. Hope this helps! Welcome to the forum!

We live across the street from a family with miniature doberman - about the size of my ski boot Our dogs have an invisible fence on about 4 acres. THe little dog frequently escapes and wants to play with Ami and Archer - initially I was quite concerned as my two play ROUGH!!! But, over time I've found it to be no problem - the dogs seem instinctively more gentle with her. And there is another woman on here who has a husky and, I think, a chihuahua.

I have two huskies and two chihuahuas! One of the chihuahuas is 6 lbs and the other is barely over 2 lbs. They are also on the older side so they didn't want anything to do with the huskies. We made sure that the huskies knew how to respect the chihuahuas boundaries and it took a bit of work but they get along fine. It will definitely be easier for you since they will grow up together. Here's a pic of my smaller chihuahua next to my husky Echo's favorite toy for a size comparison:)

sorry for your loss, and welcome to the forums. i to have a husky and a 16 year old chihuahua named Joey. Joey took a wail to excerpt Leo but now they tend to look for each other and follow each other around. Leo still wants some one his size to play with. it should be much easier if they are raised together.

Aww, thank you! I have never had a small breed dog, so I don't have any advice for you there, however, any husky I've had, there was never an issue with smaller dogs, they've just wanted to play, play, and play with them, haha. I think having your two pups grow up together, you will be fine. The only thing I can think of where you will have the biggest difference between the two is the husky needing more exercise, especially being a husky, he will need quite a bit more attention in that regard. Again, congratulations! Your two make an adorable pair

Thank you both!! Yes, we have been reading Huskies For Dummies! So we are learning as much as we can about the breed. We have been told about exercising him good and giving him plenty of playtime outside. I can't wait to have a walking buddy! My smaller breeds have never been able to walk quite as far as I'd like to; so Ghost will be a great walking buddy!!!

Nice to meet you! I am also waiting on the day I can pick up my baby and bring her home! She is only two days old, so I have an eternity to go. I am going to meet her for the first time this weekend! I cannot wait! My husband will be bringing his home around the same time as well. (He got a male from a different breeder, but when the litter was born, she did not have the color I wanted. She put me in touch with the breeder that she got one of her other dogs from, and she had one female by chance.) I hope that you enjoy your sweet new baby, and I am sorry for the loss of your other one.
