| So I am kind of freaking out.
Took Simon to the vet today for a small bump on his leg about the size of a eraser. It actually kind of looked like an eraser. Small. The vet said she thinks it could be cancer but apparently there is a kind the young dogs can get pretty easily. The good news is it normally doesn't spread if that is what it is. And they chop it off and they are fine. We have surgery scheduled for tomorrow. I am kind of freaking out. But at least I get to be there I can pet him and watch and see them cut it out with my own eyes. My little boy. |

| I'm so sorry, Elise! Is she referring to fatty tumors? They are common and harmless, so please try not to stress yourself sick over it until you know.
Here is an article on them: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=2+2111&aid=455 It might ease your mind a bit.
Please let us know what happens. |

| I'm sorry to hear that, ELise - is it in the skin or deeper in the muscle or bony tissue? |

| In the skin, and no it's not a fatty tumor. |

| Elise, I wish you and Simon luck and love tomorrow. My positive words for you, you are a great pet mom, little bumps like that are almost impossible to find, you did great on finding it while it is small. Secondly, our first kitty, I felt a small lump on the side of her neck. We took her in, and the same response as your vet. Our vet was quite new at the time, and did the surgery. When he came out to see us, he was white as a ghost. Her tumor had wrapped itself up under her jugular and he was so fearful of nicking it. He succeeded on removing the tumor, and he did test it for cancer and it wasn't. So I am sending you good vibes that this will be the case for your Simon. Keep us posted. |

| I'm sorry for my one sentence reply earlier. I do hope it's just a growth or a benign tumor. He definitely is too young to have cancer. Keeping my fingers crossed for you guys. <3 _________________ |

| If it is just in the skin and freely moveable most likely a simple excision and its gone for good. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and Simon. |

| I hope he is okay, and I truly think he will be. At his age it's fairly uncommon for aggressive cancer and he is in good health so he can fight off and hold up to any meds they might have to give him far better than an older dog. Good luck and keep us updated. _________________ |

| Saw your post title and my stomach dropped. Lots of thoughts and love to you guys today. But it sounds like if it is cancer, as long as they can get it all it will be a good prognosis. <3 |

| Okay we are out of the vets now. The surgery seamed to go well it did just seem to be on/in the skin and now he has stitches. I took pictures with my phone but I can't figure out how to upload them so that will have to wait till I am home tonight.
I volunteer at the vet he has his surgery at so I can get into my vet tech program so I was able to watch and assist with his surgery. And I was able to help him wake up and they let me take him when he was still kind of groggy. I am working this afternoon but I work at a kennel so I grabbed a crate from home and I have him up in reception with me. I didn't exactly ask if I could but they let the lady with the little dog have her dog with her. He is finally sleeping at the vets he would doze because he was drugged but he seamed scared I would leave without him. Now that we are at work he is just passed out getting some rest.
I am feeling a little frazzled I didn't sleep well last night between studying for my test for tomorrow and worrying about Simon I haven't gotten much rest. It will be a week before they get the results back and we learn what it was. The vet said that even if it was cancer she is pretty sure that she got all of it and he should be fine but we will see when the test comes back. Thanks for your well wishes guys. I will keep you posted.
I also got some adorable stoned Simon pictures that I will share tonight. |

| I would like to echo how amazing it is that you caught that. I think most people would have written it off as a bug bite. Did she determine that it was that type that she talked to you about? |

| Simon is getting back to his husky roots. And by that I mean he popped off his stitches with about a week to still have them on. Seriously dog. So we called the vet they worked us in this morning and said overall it was healing well but the stitches were no longer doing anything. They took out the stitches, put some antibiotic cream on it that is also supposed to help with closing injuries. And wrapped it all up. However now that it's wrapped I have to keep on eye on his foot make sure it it isn't to tight. For anyone that doesn't know if you wrap a dogs leg to tight there foot will swell. And it can only stay on for 2-3 day before it has to be changed. Good going buddy.

Also wanted to respond to this but forgot. I noticed it August 17th. (I remember the date because we were at a obedience show in a park in town and like 100 ft away they found a dead body that morning. You could see the poor man from the dog show it was horrible.) At the time I thought it might be a bug bite so I gave him 1/2 a benadryl and decided to keep an eye on it. It didn't go away for almost a month and last Thursday it looked a little bigger and redder so then I took him in. |
