2. Read the Stickies and Announcements. Each sub-forum may have specific rules which trump the Forum Rules in cases where there may be conflicting information. Read the rules of each board before you post so that you are clear on the expectations of the staff.
3. Respect ALL Staff and Admins. These people volunteer of their time and MUST be respected as well as their word adhered to. They are responsible for maintaining a free, open, clear and organized forum. Anyone found to be openly undermining any official ruling by a staff member will be warned.
4. Signatures: One picture only and no links. Images: To keep the forum looking neat and tidy, we ask that members insert just one picture only in their signatures. The picture should be no more than 200x500 pixels and should be of an appropriate subject, for example, your dogs and their names. Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! This is to ensure that signatures remain a welcome addition to our forum instead of a cumbersome distraction. Links: Hyperlinks in signatures--unless to a personal blog or photo stream of your dogs (like Flckr or Piscasa, for example)--are strictly prohibited. Run / Walking with Puppy Empty
PostSubject: Run / Walking with Puppy   Run / Walking with Puppy EmptyThu Sep 17, 2015 7:34 pm

My wife and I are looking to get Rhaegar into running with us, and I'm 100% OK with waiting on any sustained runs until his growth plates are fused, but I'm curious what other Husky owners think about a 20 min walk/run? For the record, he's 14 weeks at the moment.

We run using the Jeff Galloway method of running for x minutes and walking for y minutes though out our runs. I'm thinking a walk / run ratio to 1:1 for no more than 1 mile and/or 20 minutes on soft surfaces will be OK. We've done this once so far and he's just super happy during / post run it's actually amazing.

So - no more than once per day, 1 mile / 20 min max, at a 1 min on, 1 min off...too much? just right?

Thanks!

The rule is 5 min of sustained walking for every month of age - 15 weeks is almost 4 months would be 5 min X 4 months = 20 minutes. I would not run her yet except for chasing around the yard. Even better is if walking can be done on soft surfaces like grass or woodland trail. A little prevention now will be kind to her joint.
