Why all of a sudden? Empty
PostSubject: Why all of a sudden?   Why all of a sudden? EmptyThu Sep 24, 2015 8:03 am

So Otto who is 9 week and I have had for approx 1.5 weeks has been great with his potty training but recently has been going in his crate. The last nights he hasn't pooed before sleeping and has been put in the crate around 2am.
Last night he pooped at 210am and when I came to the crate at 7am he had pooped again inside.
How can I avoid this? I can't get up at 3-5am everyday because I need sleep but I also don't want him suffering and having to go.
I feed him at noon and at 8pm so I don't think it's his feeding schedule.
I feel he's doing this out of spite .
He also pees on me when I carry him out to the first floor to go outside, he'll sometimes pee for a second or two to relieve himself on me and then finish outside.
- I also haven't changed his food or his schedule. 2 raw chicken patties a day.

If he's not pottying before bed maybe try moving dinner a bit earlier.

It is possible that he's peeing when you pick him up because you're putting pressure on his bladder. Can he not do steps yet?

Regarding your sleep schedule... Sorry. A nine week old just isn't going to be able to hold it for eight hours. I know. It sucks. Where is his crate? Usually they will fuss when they have to go. If it's not in your bedroom try moving it there so you'll be able to wake up and take him out.

No steps yet.. And he went at 2am last night and had gone today before 645am
He last ate at 730pm
I'm trying to find out a schedule so he can go at the right times
Is it that maybe he's eating a lot?

He's a baby and you're expecting too much too soon. I hate to break it to you but you really need to get up many more times in the night. At that age you can't expect a pup to hold it for more than an hour. You signed up for it when you decided to get a puppy. Are you praising the daylights out of your pup when he does go outside? He is still in the beginning stages of learning what he's supposed to do so have patience. It is up to you to set your dog up for success, and that means getting him out often enough to avoid any and all accidents. Take a step back and remember that you have a baby on your hands.

You're 100% right
It just doesn't make sense. The first week had no accidents and he pooped in the morning afternoon and night.
Now, he's going once a day and then over night. It's a weird schedule because he's fed at noon and than 8... And doesn't poop til either really late or he'll go at 3-4pm and not before he goes to sleep.
I guess I have to get up during the night, it's also weird because I've had dogs and that means puppies growing up and my mom said she never had to do that, she would take the pups out at 1am and than again at 7-8am since they didn't eat since 7-8pm.

Every dog is different so what goes with one doesn't necessarily apply to another. Also what happens one week may happen differently another week. Good luck!

He pooped at 9pm, and at 2am (2 seperate times in different spots) and than this morning I woke up and he went again in his crate.. I mean he went 3 times, should I get up around 430am and walk him again??

How often are you taking him out at night?

Also, are you only feeding him twice a day? With him being so young it might be better to feed him 3 times a day with less food at each feeding. This would also mean he'd have less stool to pass during the overnight hours if his evening feeding was smaller.

Another question for you, how big is his crate? Does he have so much room in his crate that he can comfortably use a portion of it as a toilet and another portion as his clean sleeping area? Is it possible that his crate is too large for his current size?

Where does he sleep at night? Is he sleeping near you, like in the same room, or a completely separate area? I ask because if you had his crate in your room perhaps you could hear him if he was giving off signals that he needed to go out.

Lastly, what is the consistency of his stools when he goes at night? Are they pretty firm or of a softer consistency?

I take him out about every 2 hours during day. Depending if he eats or drinks during those times. After 9pm I take him out every hour and half to see if he can go before bed. I took him out at 9pm and than later at 1130 and than at 2am before I went to sleep.
His poop seems to be soft but not diarrhea just barely firm. It's hard to see because half of the time he steps or has layed in it .
His crate is about 39-42 inches long it is the "large" version. I'm thinking of making it way smaller but adding something to block his way to the other part if that makes sense.
He is getting fed 2 times a day based on my schedule as well

A young pup needs to be fed 3x daily - smaller more frequent meals may take care of the soft poop.

Size of crate WAAAAYYYY too big for young pup - divide the crate so he has enough room to sleep, turn around, that should stop the pooping in the crate.
