Subject: Hard Red Bump on Lip. . Mon Jan 31, 2011 2:52 pm
Shiloh, my 9 year old, has a very hard red bump on the lower portion of her lip. The black part. I don't think it's an ingrown hair, because it's above the hair line. It's about the size of a pea. . it's very red, and looks like if you poked it it would just explode. She isn't to happy about us trying to look at it. We are going to the vet this afternoond (about 4:30 when we get out of work) Anyone else ever experienced anything like this? I googled it and there are quite a few things it could be, so to be safe, we are taking her in. Shiloh has been a sick dog her whole life, so we can't wait when something is different with her.

It could be something simple and harmless like a wart or it could be as bad as a tumor. I'd bet it's more on the simple and harmless side but definitely best to have her checked by a vet to be sure. I wouldn't be too worried but please let us know what the vet says.

Yeah, I doubt its a wart, I looked into that last night, but then again, I am not a vet! I hate waiting. . but that is the joy of owning our own business. No one can fill in for us! So at 4:30 we will be closing the deli (only 1 hour early), and taking her to the walk-in. I called the vet, and they said bring her in.
I will let you know what they said as soon as we get home.

They poked it with with a needle and ran some tests, and it showed nothing. No infection or anything simple like that. So now it could be two things, a tumor, or a Blood Blister, We are HOPING it's just a blood blister. We have to keep an eye on it for two weeks, and if it doesn't get any smaller, or go away. . . we could taker her in for surgery, and have a biopsy done to determine what it is. . . so at this point. . we are keeping all paws crossed for the next two weeks!

When they poked it did anything come out? If it was a blood blister would it not have bleed? Poor girl, I hope its nothing bad!

I thought the same thing about it being a blood blister. . it did bleed. . but not to much. . . And even now, its still just as big. I will give it the two week, and then fork out the $400 to get her the surgery if I have to. What more can I do.

Okay. . so. . we got a 2nd opinion today from a vet who has been in the business for over 30 years. . he said. it's not cancer. He said he has seen alot of cancer in his lifetime, and this isn't cancer. He went into a bit more detail . . but it's gross. . so I don't want to repeat it.
He then said we should have it removed because of it's location. I said okay. . and he and my husband put her up on the table, they gave her some sleepy meds. . numbed the area. . . and took off. . . then cauterized it . . and tada. . . I am still kind of shocked after the fear and thoughts racing from yesterday. . . . But she is now sleeping soundly in her bed. . .
What a day. . Here is the video we uploaded this mornign. I will have to do an update tomorrow

She is doing great. We got to go to Indoor dog park tonight. There was only Shiloh, Shelby, and their friend Max there, so it wasn't to crazy, and she ran around like her playful self. We didn't stay to long, I didn't want to wear her down, but she did great!
