| Hi! My name is Dev, and I'm owned by my lovely rescue, Mia, who we call alternately "Mia", "Lady Mia", "Pretty Pretty", and "Mia Bear". My fiance and I adopted our girl in December 2015 from a rescue in central ohio (I'd say which one, since we've had a truly wonderful experience with them, but not sure about site rules and regs on that subject?). We were told that she was about 2 years old, and had been abandoned in a Cleveland shelter. When she was dropped off, she was pregnant, and stayed at the shelter until her pups were weaned. And, of course, the shelter didn't want her, because who would want an underweight mama husky when there are cute babies?! Thankfully for us, the rescue picked her up and shortly after we brought her home to be loved by us. Apart from that, we don't know much about her upbringing-her neck had been shaved for a shock collar, she was initially very frightened of men making quick movements around her, and the vet thinks she may have been used as a dam for a puppy mill (but that's purely speculation based on his experience with dogs). Since then she's gained almost 20 pounds and is less of a scared-y cat. Mia is our first furbaby that we picked out together-we have 2 guinea pigs (who are spoiled and think Mia is their messenger to demand veg from) that I rescued in college. We both grew up with dogs- aminiature poodle for me, who passed three years ago, and a cocker spaniel, who is still alive and well and harassing the local lizard population in south florida with his parents. Long story short-Our lives have been taken over by our big, sweet girl, and after having a sad puppy-hood, we are pleased to say she is loved and spoiled like she should have always been. And probably sick to death of being photographed for her dogblr and instagram. |

| Hi Dev and Welcome to the Forum! Thanks for rescuing that sweet girl.
I had a black lab that I'd rescued who'd obviously been kicked pretty severally by a man and it took a couple of years before I could move my feet around her without her taking off as far as she could go. It's good to hear that she's responding well to having a safe man around - but don't be surprised if she hunkers down from time to time - abuse is a hard thing to unlearn. _________________ “Properly trained, a man can be dog’s best friend.” Corey Ford . |

| Hi! Poor thing. I don't understand how people can hurt animals like that... Awful. She is doing lots better-but yesterday and today have actually been tough mental health days for her. Luckily she's found her safe zone curled up under our bed (we initially thought it was too low for her to weasel under there, but that was before we realized how well huskies houdini themselves into ad out of situations). Most days are good days for her, though. And on her bad days she gets lots of snuggles and quiet time. |

| Welcome Fellow Cincinnatians Mia you're gorgeous girl I am in the northern suburbs!!! Which you know that mean we will eventually meet at a dog park probably!! Where are you at in the area? I do a bunch with the local dog group playdate group for meet ups and stuff. A couple of us add pictures from the group to this album ALBUM in forum (it is for all Ohio but do lots of Cincy Dayton stuff.) What dog park do you go to? |

| I'll have to figure out how to use the scrapbook section! I've been swamped at work this week and haven't had much off time to get on the internet for fun things. We just moved to cinci about a year ago, so I'm not really used to how the city is all divided up! We're from florida, and we never had townships or anything, haha. We're technically still considered part of "city of cincinnati", but we're planning on moving north outside of the 275 loop in a few months. We haven't found a dog park yet and since we have a fenced in yard we let Mia get most of her energy out there, but we take her to Winton Woods on the weekends! We're really excited, too, because out neighbor just got a 9 week old husky puppy, so she'll finally have another dog to play with who's owners aren't "NO NO BIG DOG GO AWAY" like they are in our neighborhood. -.- So, I'm gonna go see if I cant figure out how to post pictures now |
