Hi, I have an almost 4 month old pup. Not our first dog but our first husky. Im aware huskies dont require the same amount of food as other dogs. When we got her she was fed pedigree tins whuch we gradually changed to pedigree kibble with the intent of changing her food to a higher quality dry food. With the pedigree i would offer her as much as she would eat (3 meals a day) which is alot lower than the suggested amount on the pack. We have begun to start the switch to the new food (akela 80:20) and i am struggling to figure out just how much she will require. i was under the inpression that with higher quality food the amount required as a standard would be less because there is no fillers etc. But on the pack it is suggesting a pup is fed more than a regular afult dog and also equates to more than what the pedigree reccommends. to me this seems like an awful lot just for a pup not to mention that she doesnt require as much as reccommended. My question is just how do i work out how much she needs. I dont want to over feed her yet i dont want to underfeed her either.

Generally speaking most packages will have you overfeed your husky. i would start at 2-3 cups daily, probably closer to the three under one year of age. If you get the famous pudding poop, cut the amount down by an 1/8th to a 1/4 cup. As an adult 1-2 cups daily for breed standard should be enough. More on active days, less on non active days. Many huskies will eat what they need, and some will over eat. Keeping your dog on the lean side is optimal, in that bone and joint issues as your dog ages will be kept at a minimal, if dog was well bred. I hope that helped.
