Hello everybody. I was looking for some advice on taste of the wild food. My two are currently on Acana pacifica It's a great food, but unfortunately the prices are just getting so ridiculous and we were thinking about making a switch. I first came across earthborn coastal catch. But it looked like alot of its protein just came from the pea protein and not meat. And the second ingredient was potato. Wasn't really that impressed. I really like the ingredients of taste of the wild better. Do any of you guys feed it? I'm hoping that mine would do well on it. Thank you!

I feed TOTW, and Miya has done very well on it. As Ronin mentioned a quality food for someone on a budget, just make the switch slowly. Sad Acana is such a great food, but I agree, just not in everyone's budget.

What a coincidence, recently I've thought about switching Mylo to TOTW. I like the variety that they offer. It would be cool to rotate Mylo with different flavors…but then again why switch foods if he's been excellent with his current food (Dr. Tim's Kineses). That's the only kibble he's ever been on..besides the junk the breeder had him on lol. So I'm thinking why fix something that isn't broken?
I do like to add bits of chicken jerky as a topper (uncle ulrick's brand). Sometimes I just think about keeping Dr. Tim's for his whole lifetime and just switch around toppers, bits of chicken, beef, etc.

Why did I chose Dr. Tim's? Well while preparing for little Mylo's arrival..I was searching on what kibble to put him on and I liked that Tim's food was a excellent rated food, all life stage, and that it wasn't widely available. I was concerned about recalls and stuff so I liked that this was a small company that is less prone to "scary" situations. I buy it off of chewy.com but sometimes I do think bout the probability of there being no more Dr. Tim's and what food would I go to.

We feed TOTW and have been very happy with it. I just started auto delivery with Chewy.com this summer - the initial purchase o 2 30 pound bags with free shipping and 20% off first order made it really cheap. BUt what really surprised me is it showed up the next day affraid Don't know how they did that but it was appreciated. I used to buy it at Tractor Supply when on sale but, even though there are 4 TS's around me, they are all a minimum of 23-25 miles (guess you could say we are in the middle of nowhere Razz )

THe only thing to be aware of is that the different formulations have different protein/fat percentages - 2 are 32/18 and the other two are lower - maybe 28, possibly? Not sure.

The dogs love it, the poops are nice and firm (appreciated by me as the chief pooper picker upper) - I just got back from the vet yesterday and she commented on how good his coat was, especially for summer and that his teeth were excellent (though that may have to do with the raw beef bone he gets daily - there is always a noticeable amount of meat and fat on them as well as the connective tissue)

We feed mostly the High Prairie Bison/Venison one, sometimes the wetland (duck, I think) or the (?)wild boar...haven't had the courage to try the salmon one (rumor has it, it STINKS).

However, she (the vet) did say Mr. needed to lose a bit of weight (I wasn't surprised - the night before, while feeling for ticks, burdocks, seeds and mats I was really surprised at the fatty layer on him.) So I've cut back, again, to 3/4 C of the High Praire (32/18) twice a day and 1/2 C for his bedtime ritual. And am seriously limiting his tasties with hubby (I think it was more the mashed potates with heavy cream and butter, the whipped cream and the cheese than the TOTW Rolling Eyes )

Thanks for the input everybody! I've been looking at all the TOTW foods. I like the Pacific stream and southwest canyon! I was also doing some research on horizon's legacy fish. I think it's a maybe 5-10 dollars more but dog food advisor rated it 5 stars. Decisions decisions...

Hey, guys! Hope you're enjoying your new home. We miss you here in Mass.!

We fed Layla TOTW for a while until she lost the taste for it. We fed the High Plains formula. She really liked it at first and her poops were great. I think this formula got four out of five stars on dogfoodadvisor.com. We recently switched to BJ's food, which is actually pretty good. We get the chicken flavor. It also gets four out of five stars on dogfoodadvisor.com, and overall it's cheaper than TOTW. But I'd have to say that there are some good deals out there from time to time for discount coupons on TOTW; you just have to look around. I also like that TOTW comes in a bigger bag than the BJ's food (30 lbs. versus 16). If Layla still liked to eat it we'd probably still be feeding it.
