Should you need assistance creating an appropriate signature, please PM an Admin and we would be happy to help! | I've done a ton of research but I've still yet to be informed of how to actually train the commands. Are there any good sites on training the commands such as gee/haw/on by, etc? I've heard of just walking your dog and saying the commands as you turn a certain direction or pass a distraction, but I don't feel like that's really teaching them anything. They just hear you say a word, they don't know what it means, and I doubt they'll remember it during a completely new scenario with their owner way behind them. How do I reward good behavior at the end of the gangline?
I've done a good amount of clicker training with my dog, Salem, but I don't want him running back to me after a mark, expecting a treat. And praise has never been something he really works for, so how do you reward a dog that's 10 feet in front of you for going left or right?

| I've taught Leo the mush commands as we walked, but all i did was verbal praise and he was more than happy to keep going. you could also try a heal position and use the mushing commands as you make turns that's how i started. i also let him go farther up in front as we made progress. I wouldn't use the marker or clicker that means their going to get a treat endless there right next to you. once they learn commands, it also helps if you can get some one to ride in front of you so they focus on whats in front. that's what I've heard. so far i have let to try it myself, I've still gotta what a few more months until its winter and hes old enough for a good x-back harness, so he doesn't grow out of it . good link for equipment list http://hubpages.com/hub/Dog-Sports-And-Dog-Running-Skijoring-Bikejoring-And-Scootering-With-Best-Youtube-Videos they are usually more then happy to answer questions and have good info http://www.urbanmushing.com/commoncommands.htm |
